This Belarusian master makes wonderful things made of wood

It is difficult to imagine that there are mechanisms that are made without a single piece of metal. However, Andrej Martynyuk, a Belarusian woodcarving specialist, creates complex woods that look very magical.

In his childhood, Andrej wanted to draw. Then he became a professional engineer, but this did not hinder his artistic interest. A carpenter's friend told her that the tip of perfection was a wood. After that, Andrew decided to gather all his knowledge and artistic ability to make a working hour of wood.

In the meantime, it was easier to say than to do, but the persistent artist did not give up and worked for the first hour for three years. He tried to copy the mechanisms of metal clocks for a long time, but this led to a long period of failure.

After several years of experimentation, the master came to the conclusion that the size of the gears should be increased and that all parts should be washed with a special compound to resist the moisture. It also turned out that wood, unlike metals, has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion, so its size is smaller.

Today, creating a wooden clock for Andrej will take about six months. The master is happy to sell his work, his lesson costs about $ 500, which is of course not enough to keep his family.

Andrej acknowledges that the money received for the lessons can not be measured by the efforts needed to create such mechanisms, but it is a great pleasure for one of his works to become part of his life.

In order to achieve Swiss watches accuracy, Andrej has to use up to 15 different types of wood to create a mechanism.
