One of my little ones is enthused about Geo-Caching. She had done some in Girl Guides https://www.girlscouts.org/ throughout the years but absolutely lit up when I mentioned that she could probably download an APP on her phone and do it herself.

What better way to introduce her to the blockchain and show folks here some neat nature than to review our first trip?! I told her I would collect the upvotes for any geocaching posts so graciously placed by STEEMians, and give it to her so that she could buy the professional app rather than the free one. This will help her to stick with it, and learn about the awesome crowdsourcing capabilities of STEEMit.

So, we packed up the dog, headed to the nature preserve, and tried our hand at Geocaching!

Here is what the APP looks like on the Iphone. https://www.geocaching.com/play Apparently there are quite a few around but I thought we should start with a nice walk in the nature preserve.

Nice that there is a cool park for the kids to play in on the way and right next to the preservation. Kinda funny that none of these kids are here and are probably staring at an ipad!

Heading to the first one a little further into the woods. We end up going the wrong way but find our way based on my incredibly strong sense of East and West ;)

We find the first one which is a simple film canister.

Upon opening it up, there are several little trinkets including a personalized note. Now, it also has an extremely small origami swan she folded up so delicately.

That first one was easy! Especially when we figured out how to use the phone/app properly and noticed that it had an arrow pointing you in the right direction. On to the next one which is 568 meters away.

This one is rated a little more difficult to find and harder on the terrain. The instructions say to reach into a dragon's mouth or something like that.

IMG_4465.jpg

Found it! I didn't see any dragons but is was tucked well off the beaten path (literally) and hidden among some fallen logs. This one was a bit larger container so it had room for a few little toys, a notepad, a pencil and some other neat stuff.

Now to head back to civilization.

Not only was this a neat thing for her to do, it was a fantastic walk with a purpose. It made use of technology as a tool for greater purposes, and it was neat to just walk and talk. Afterwards, she said, "thanks for coming with me dad" and I had to answer with thanking her for inviting me on her adventure.

We are planning on regular walks to find more local ones. This weekend, we are even going to pick a nice small town to visit and explore and find some more there. I have decided that I am going to print a bunch of steemit.com logos and park one in each of the geocaches we find to spread the word about this great place they should discover as well. Might as well make it even more useful a walk!

Thanks in advance for the upvotes and I will show the progress as we go and raise a couple bucks of STEEM to fund her hobby. Do you even geocache bro?
