Although it was a little chilly this morning, we managed to get the dogs out for a run along the beach pretty early this morning. It was only 7 deg when we left and down by the water with the wind, it probably was more like 4 deg. But, the sun was shinning and the dogs didn't care if the water was cold, they were going swimming no matter what.

Before we made it down to the beach, we were approached by this fella that was telling us that he found a little bird on the road as he was walking by. It must have gotten hit by a car or something. He put the bird up in a pine tree to get it off the road and see if it would recover and fly away.

@inkpixie wanted to take the bird back to the house with us on our way back if he was still there. We continued on and decided to grab it on the way back to see what we could do to help it out.

@landonator enjoyed throwing rocks in the water. He enjoyed it so much he tried to walk in after some of them. Not quite warm enough for that yet.

On our way into the woods for a little hike up the mountain, we spotted a seal checking out what we were doing. He came in pretty close to see what the dogs were up to, but I couldn't get the best shot with my phone.

We headed up the mountain a little bit. We didn't go too far because it was Gibson's first time out since his surgery so I didn't want to push him too hard. We stopped at a little rock clearing for @landonator to have a snack and play on the rocks before heading back down.7DD77E9F-E1AB-4492-98E6-937B7497E428.jpeg

@landonator finished off his adventure with some drawings in the sand before we went back to check on the bird.

We noticed the bird wasn't in the tree any more when we got back to it. It had fallen down in the grass and @inkpixie scooped it up and carried it the short distance back to the house. We examined it a little bit when we got home. It's wing could have been broken but I also noticed it was having a pretty hard time breathing and it was panting a lot; almost gasping to get some air. I thought it might have had some crushed organs but we thought we'd make a little nest in a box and see how it goes.

Unfortunately, before we could even put the bird in the box, it sort of rolled over, fluttered it's wings a little, and died right in @inkpixies's hands. It must have been pretty messed up internally and just couldn't make it. It's a shame and it would have been cool for @landonator to nurse a little bird back to life it had just been a broken wing, but it is what it is.

Hope you enjoyed our little walk this morning.

Sort:

They never make it. I have tried 6 total over my life (one with Anthony) and they always die. I think it is because they are so delicate.

I am curious if you used this as an opportunity to talk about death? I know that it is a pretty heavy subject so if you want to Facebook message me or give a short answer on here, I get it! Just seems like an opportunity, you know?

P.S. He is an actual toddler now! The haircut confirmed it!

P.P.S. I really like these pictures, Stephen. They are clean and crisp.

He didn't actually see it die and wasn't looking for it afterwards so it wasn't time for that discussion yet. Thanks about the pictures, I got a new phone and these are straight from the phone with no editing. They do turn out really sharp.

@ladonator is getting so big. It's going to be a blast to be with him and watch him on his adventures with us next summer. Won't be long and we'll actually be able to go into the water after rocks, without succumbing to hypothermia (talking mid-July of course). Like his dad, he's going to be up for whatever adventures we find outdoors.

although the weather is very cold in the morning..not a barrier for your family.give the fun

Not at all. 7 degrees is much better than -30 degrees in the winter.

for me 7deajat it is very cold..because I am not used to it. i live in indonesia that never see and feel how cold like snow..i only feel hot here every time

wow, very beautiful beach @stephen.king989, I really like the beach, I used to go to the beach, but now I have not gone to the beach for long time, because my residence is now far away with the beach. Seeing this photo you share, I became missed by the beach. Thanks for sharing, and wish you a wonderful day

Thanks. I'm sure you'll get back a beach some day.

yes, hopefully it will all come back as before, because now I have some problems in my life, if all this is over, I can enjoy the beauty of the beach again. Thanks for the motivation...:)

@inkipixie leads to a dead link. First I thought, you gave your dogs Steemit accounts, but then again @landonator is the boy. I'm a bit confused here... am I guessing correctly that the woman is @inkipixie (whatever the correct spelling is)? :-)

Thanks, I fixed it. It was supposed to be @inkpixie. Yes, that is my wife and @landonator is my son. Giving my dogs steemit accounts might not be a bad idea, they are in my Steemit photography enough :)

Now things make more sense to me... You could hang webcams to their collar and stream their life on DLive :-)

I am ready to.walk with you :p just send me vissa and ticket :p

Hahaha. Maybe just walk with me through the photos 😀

that's not fair :/

a very beautiful beach, with sunny weather is the most appropriate moment to spend time off with family. I hope your day is always fun.

Guess it was his time. Glad that you shared with us. Your outing looks adventurous no telling what you may find on the beach.

so warm walk! warm I mean emotionally warm!
is it your family?
the boy is so sweet!! I've a son of about the same age, he is near 3, right?
