Chaw Srei Vibol Temple Ruins - Photo Gallery
These days we have been celebrating Cambodian New Year. While enjoying public holidays, I like to go out in the nature, exploring "off the beaten track".
I went 32km out of town to discover Chaw Srei Vibol Temple! It is an unrestored temple from the 12 century, same period of the most famous Angkor Wat Unesco Heritage.
This temple is in a very bad condition, as the government doesn't see tourist visiting and doesn't want to invest money in it.
Some stones form a huge pile of stones which may have formed a tall structure before collapse.
This ruined state of Chau Srei Vibol is perfect if you want to go all adventurous and climb to the top of toppled towers and hallways.
You can try to climb these stones as they are stable enough to carry a person's weight. Prove that I was there!
There is a part of this central complex where a tree has taken over a part of the structure. It merits taking a wonderful shot of.
There is a little pagoda beside it, that monks left semi-abandoned.
That's the way uphill to reach the Temple.
I also made a short video! Have a look, you will perceive the serendipity and magic of the place!
I hope you like it!
What an AWESOME and AWE Inspiring #walkwithme!! The tree overtaking that old building is so epic. The energy in that place must have been pretty unique! Thanks for taking us!
That is absolutely beautiful. I would love to walk there too. Something about ruins that always fascinate me.
To think of it in its prime greatness, and to see it a hidden gem, abandoned and quiet, far from maddening crowds, lovely.
awesome natural picture.
I thought you were headed to Myanmar...????
Nah! Just looking for jobs there!
How much time do you get off for Cambodian New Year?
This is really lovely. And to think how much history is in those tumbled stones. Also, that they were all excavated and cut completely by hand; it's humbling even if they are just in a pile.
Did you go to any wild parties as well or was it all peaceful nature time?
Thank you! There are a couple of days of public holiday, but most of the people close their business for 10 days.
There are a lot of wild area here, but I don't wanna act Indiana Jones, because there are still a lot of un-exploded mines.
This would be an amazing place for me to set one of my Singularity paintings in, I might have to look up more photos of decaying temples for inspiration.
