Walk with Me at Rodman Reservoir’s Florida Nature Trail~#1

in #walkwithme7 years ago (edited)

Yesterday we took the Steemit van out for a drive to the Rodman Reservoir, also known as Lake Ocklawaha. It’s a premier bass fishery in North Central Florida.

The entrance to the nature trail, it was quite a steep walk down to the trail.

A treasure I picked up on the walk, a tiny fossilized sand dollar. My eyes are always on the ground.

Nice campgrounds at the KOA's I have visited. I will have to check this place out next time we make it to Florida. Is it close to you? That might be this next year or the next for sure. Abbi has relatives near Jacksonville. It has been three year since we made the trip. Love the walk with you. Love for you

For this time of year the campground was almost empty. It was a pleasant surprise. Nice amenities. You would both enjoy it. Hugs at you both. 🐓🐓

Will check it out for future. It looks flat there which is a plus with Abbis wheelchair. Have a great day. Love

Gorgeous place to spend some time! Nice find on the sand dollar. Be careful of the predators...

That was a tiniest little sand dollar ever.we were in the Ocala National forest which is known for its wild animals.

Nice it look stunning, thanks for sharing. What a walk!

Thanks for your reply my friend. We had a fun escape for a couple of hours. They say there are monkeys in the trees that you can hear early in the morning. They were imported to make a Tarzan movie many years ago.

Haha thats cool. At least the let them free after :)

The monkeys migrated to the forests after they escaped an island in silver springs fla. thought you might like that. They are smart little critters!

Brilliant! Thanks ;)

Beautiful place. What is a sand dollar? It looks like a snail of some sort or a water snail perhaps? I've never seen one before. Were they used as payment once, is that where they get the name from?
I love learning new things ;)

It was quite pretty and the weather was nice. Sand Dollars are sea creatures, this one is ancient and was fossilized. You can find them alive in the keys, some are quite large. Florida was once a large beach long ago and you can often find fossils in the sandy soil. This one was laying on the trail. Thank-you for reading and commenting.🐓

Interesting. I'm learning so much from being on steemit. :)

I really did enjoy that walk, a beautiful reservoir! I have never seen anything that looked like this yet:

Those are the roots of a palm tree and the moss and greenery that have created a symbiotic relationship perhaps one draws more water so that all survive. Glad you liked it. We walk often, but thought of you when we were exploring. Thanks for looking. It was a lot of fun!

We don't have palm trees here so that's why we don't know what the roots look like.

Beep! Beep! This humvee will be patrolling by and assisting new veterans, retirees, and military members here on Steem. @shadow3scalpel will help by upvoting posts from a list of members maintained by @chairborne and responding to any questions replied to this comment.

Merry Christmas to you @shadow3scalpel!

Ever see any of them there gators down up in there?

The very reason it’s more fun to go salt water fishing. Nothing like turning on the high beam light at night only to find hundreds of eyes staring back at you. They do get up and move too! I prefer to keep my distance. 🐓🐓

I like the looks of this Rodman Reservoir. There's a lot of wild animal activity at that place wow. Black bears, Cougars and even Sand Dollars :) I love it, Thanks for sharing your walk with us.

Very cool place and virtually no one else to be seen so we could wander without being bothered. Just had to watch out for creatures that are bigger than we are.

That little sandollar and the ferns are my fave! Looks like such a relaxing day. Do you ever see crocodiles or gators in the lakes where you walk?

I like those two as well. It was fun to go wandering, if there’s water there’s a gator. See them frequently.

Oh that must be a treat! It so nice you are so close to nature, it's extremely lush where you live, how beautiful!

The downside is the bugs and humidity.😉

Humidity makes my bones hurt, bugs I honestly don’t mind as much. We had them in VA, I lived near the water and there’s plenty there as you know lol

Cool post. I live i the UK but grew up between Deland and London. Spent a lot of time hunting good old Slowcala in my teens. Lol. Beautiful place and good to see some pics as I haven't been back in the past few years. Great post Steem on.
