This was my first time in the park. Steemit is getting me out of the house and exploring the local wonders.
As soon as you get into the park there is a modest dirt parking lot and a view of Bellows Pond.

This map only shows a tiny part of the mostly undeveloped park.
After stopping at the entrance building to check in I processed to the parking lot. There I met an older guy like myself getting out of his truck with a walking stick. I ask him if he was familiar with the park. He said he was and ask me to join him for a walk around the pond in front of us. So off we went.
He and I hit off from the start. We both liked to talk a lot., Ha ha. So I didn't get as many pictures as I could have. The walk was longer than it looked it would be.

979 acres is huge! Most of our parks here are 500 acres or smaller. Farm land is such a premium commodity that there is little room for recreational land.
That's good the land is being farmed by you. Long Island is small with large population. But forethought in people and local government have preserved large tracts of land to protect the ground water and pine barrens as well as for recreation.

did you actually partake in some of the fishing at this park? what kinds do they have, from where im from we have pretty minimal selection,,, pickerel, perch, and trout

That first photo is beautiful. Looks like my kind of place, especially with fresh water fishing. It is nice that you had company to walk with. Yes, Steemint gets me out of the house too. : )
The guy wouldn't shut-up, was a real interesting nice guy. Got 1/2 his life story in 30 minutes. Book coming out next month, lol
The enviroment is very cool as seen in the picture.. I love staying in this type of environ to read because of the quiteness and atmosphere.. Thanks to Steemit for giving us more information about places..

Looks like a beautiful place to go camping and hiking and boating and such!! I haven't been camping in a couple of years but miss it..maybe this summer!! We use to go to Codorus State Park in PA!
No way in warm weather with ticks. Eastern LI is epicenter for deer ticks and Lyme disease.
Yeah, they are no fun! We've had ticks here all through Winter. Tiger doesn't go out and he had one on him last week :(. I think it got in either hitching a ride on pants legs or through the front door where the outside cats hang out. Does not bode well for Summer, may have to treat the yard this year.
