"I'm going to walk the fence line. You should come with me"
That's what my husband said to me this afternoon. A walk in the woods? You bet!!
We walked the fence line across the woods to the field. He needed to measure a portion of the field. While he measured, I wandered and took photos!
Mullien - Verbascum thapsus
More Mullien
Violet Wood Sorrel - Oxalis violaceae
Thistle
Last year's thistle.
Yellow Rocket - Barbarea vulgaris
Blue Violet - Viola sororia
Another Blue Violet
I have no idea what grew these seed pods. I'm interested in seeing what grows back. I'm considering getting a few of the seeds and growing it myself just to see what it is!
Last year's Mullein
Johnny-Jump-Up - Viola bicolor
There were so many violets! I was happy to see them.
Thanks for coming with us! Stay tuned for next time. The weather is getting warmer and more flowers are coming up and budding out.
That was a productive walk. I love the spring wild flowers. Even the thistle and other ones that can make a big mess. 🐓🐓
I love how the thistle and mullein bring the finches! They love them. I try to get my husband to leave as many as possible.
You are so good with flower ID- I like following along on your walks through the woods!
Thank you! I see a flower and the name usually just pops into my head from reading it previously. I have no idea why. I don't study them at all.
Loved all the photos! I am wondering if your pods are a locust?
That's a really good guess! Maybe it is! I'll have to go back and look for more evidence. Thanks for the clue!
Yay!!! Spring is here!!!! (Hopefully I didnt jinx it and we get random snow again) the temperatures should be warming up nicely and soon, morels!!! (Though I probably wont spot any!)
It's supposed to be a great week. I can't wait to get to enjoy it. I have yet to see even one morel...
We just need some good sunny days after all this rain we have been getting. It has been pretty cloudy up here.
Wow, what gorgeous wildflowers! I wonder what those pods are haha!! #mysteryplant
So exciting having warm weather with things waking up:) Thank you for the walk!
I love finding all these new things popping up! @goldenoakfarm suggested maybe the pods were from a Locust tree! I'm going to look at it again and see if that fits.
