#WalkWithMe on the Trail to Fisherman's
It's a bright blue afternoon in the San Bernardino mountains, so I take advantage of the opportunity and drive about 6 miles offroad to the trailhead for the uppermost access to Deep Creek.
It begins in a beautiful grove of black oaks and boulders. Soon we are treated to a panoramic view of Lake Arrowhead.
From here, the trail gets steeper as it switchbacks across a burn recovery zone.
At just one mile, Crab Creek transforms the scenery into a riparian paradise.
Brisket takes the leap!
We cross the creek and continue on.
This mile of trail is fully shaded, untouched by the fire that turned the first slope into skeletons.
It's pretty easy elevation wise, but is in need of some tlc.
After a squeeze through some white thorn, the riparian glory returns with our arrival at Deep Creek.
We crossed the stream to the embankment.
Up there on the flat is a walk-in group campground available for reservations.
There are four sites, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and creek views. No one was there when we stopped by...
The main attraction here is this deep fishing hole. Last time I swam in there, it seemed to be upwards of 8'. This time, it was too cold, so I just sat on the rocks, gazing into the still water. Minnows swam past, and larger trout leapt for the flies.
White Alder reflections
Deep is the creek.
Soon enough, it was time to cross back over and hike homeward. No complaints, because the nature looks beautiful front to back!
