Abandoned and Strip-Cleared - Part 1 of 2
If you've been following me, you likely know that I'm a sucker for exploring and photographing entropy in action.
I've driven by this abandoned house a few times and finally decided to stop this morning and capture it before it potentially disappears.
I don't actually know that it will disappear, but I know that someone paid to have the property strip-cleared of any and all trees and vegetation, of which this property was ensconced in this past summer.
Added to this is the fact that all of the out-buildings are in terrible disarray, however the main house appears to be in relatively good shape. So only time will tell if this old property gets a face-lift or the wrecking-ball.
Like many properties where the owners have stepped aside, it has that sad and eerie quality about it. It makes me wonder about how it must have been in its heyday when some family called it home.
I was somewhat nervous that I'd be spotted by the police, as there was really no where to hide my car.
I took about 80 photos which I whittled down to 48 and will post them in two parts.
It was below freezing this morning when I braved the elements to capture these images. I hope you enjoy them!!!

All images @cognoscere and taken on Friday January 19th, 2018 in Howell, New Jersey (Sony RX100 V)
I was thinking about you and your photography today when I was to this creepy place that no one has been to in years :D it was my own horror movie . I love your first pociture , it’s like a shot from a scary movie
Thanks @journeyoflife, this is one of my favorite things to photograph, I like the sense of adventure!!!
Thai is great photography and nice place, so really look.

Thanks!!!
Totally impressive @cognoscere...it would be an amazing place to shoot video too.
This one was Outstanding...
Thanks @lyndsaybowes. I keep reminding myself to take some video with my RX100 and get on DTube!
Oh the stories that place could tell. If only. Almost looks like some sort of school, or place for many people to live...like and orphanage of old or something like that. Amazing place. Look forward to more photos of the area. And glad you didn't get hauled off shooting it.
SO sad they have to just cut down the monster trees automatically. Suggests bigger things to come, unfortunately. All these old farmsteads going by the wayside is sad.
I think you're pretty spot on with your observations. It's a really big house, much bigger that the photos reveal. There were at least 4 chimney stacks and I bet it easily had 8 or 10 rooms.
Decrepit old property....has a ghostly feel to it....wonder why? lol. I could picture teens hanging out in that abandoned gazebo, drinking beers, smoking whatever and thinking they were cool and funny.
I wonder what happened to make the people leave. I could almost hear the creaky swings and the giggle of children running around the large property.
Super photo essay @cognoscere!
Yeah, from what I could see, there were definitely people hanging out and making good use of those buildings. Not sure about the main house, as it appeared to be locked and I didn't see any broken windows.
I agree with your musings about what the place was like when it was alive with it's original owners. I bet it was quite nice!!!
The outdoor stove/fireplace is really cool. I loved the gazebo and the swingset too...can imagine lots of memories are tied to both. Great walk with me...errie and clam. <3
Thanks!!!
You do have great eyes buddy and nicely taken photographs :)
