Water Hues
Recently I’ve learned that the range in colour from blue and green to orange and red of fresh and salt water is influenced by a variety of minerals, microscopic plants and dissolved rock. When limestone is broken into small pieces it dissolves creating a green/blue hue that we see in waterbodies. Algae is a microscopic plant that grows in the abundance of phosphorus. In combination with particles scattering light rays, algae add to the strickingly green colour.
