Why do people do this at a restaurant??

in #waiting7 years ago (edited)

Help me understand this... why are people so shitty when it comes to being a guest in a restaurant/bar?

For those of you that have never worked in a restaurant or a bar, do you genuinely think that our job is easy? Why must you sit down and feel superior?

Do not come in expecting superb service when you come in with your negative attitude and your ridiculously unrealistic expectations/requests.

Don't get me wrong, I understand... some people have allergies and dietary restrictions/preferences but please understand there is only so much we can do to accommodate .

Don't modify something and then expected it to taste great or for it to come out in a timely fashion.
Please understand that our culinary team members are trained to make the dish exactly the same, every single time; according to recipe. So when you come in and start adding and subtracting ingredients, you throw off the flow of the kitchen.

Do not come into the restaurant and "say well last time I was here"; we don't care about what happened the last time you went to whichever restaurant you went to because for the most part when you start off with "well the last time I was here", you're probably not remembering the last time you were here.

And please don't tell me that you had a dish that we don't even offer on the menu or even have the ingredients to make, "the last time you were here".

It makes you sound and look like an idiot and yes we told everybody in the kitchen that you're the fucking idiot who claims to have eaten Alfredo Pasta at a Chinese Restaurant.

You know what else makes you look dumb? Asking for things that you knew in advance you wanted prior to food arriving. If you told your server in advance, chances are they'll get everything prior to food arriving, so you can enjoy your meal exactly how you wanted.

Another thing... Don't get upset with me when we're "86" an item. It's not my fault. Our team does their best to project sales for the week. We're not prefect.

& lastly... I get paid $5.05/hr, do you really think I'm in charge of this place?
