I want to travel and get to know Africa

Good afternoon my name is Maritza Jimenez I want to share something that I love doing on vacation. Greetings @Surfyogi Y @Wafrica

Since I was a baby I have traveled: first, with my parents; then, with friends and now with my daughter. I have visited several European countries without fear, and Czech Republic I always feel those tickles of emotion in my stomach when I see myself on the road. But in the middle of my infatuation with the planet Earth, I was resisting a corner: Africa. Black Africa sub-Saharan. Imposing, complicated, remote. I would love to look at new trends and learn from Africa, because I hate that only the North teaches things to the South when this is really bi-directional.

I know the culture of the North because it is the one that I have surrounded since I was born and in which I live immersed daily. In the South, I still have everything to discover. And if I would like to travel to Africa everything is new to my eyes. After traveling through almost all of Europe, I feel a little uncomfortable why I could not travel to that beautiful country called Africa. Travel to many places that I love. The smells, the landscapes, the cities, the languages, the clothes, the meals ... even the light is different.

I would like to know its culture, its people, the wonderful places that I imagine have that beautiful country.
My son is a fan of the TV shows of Animals of Africa Serengeti National Park, he says that he would also like to go to the Serengeti, that he dreams of going and I know that soon we will go to that beautiful country, my son and my daughter. They are dark colors because their father is dark, I love the black race and that is why we save to travel to Africa when God allows it.

When you go so far from home and you surround yourself with people so different from you, with other priorities, routines and ways of life, you realize that what until that moment seemed very important to you is, in reality, nonsense, like a speck of dust in the universe. This is a good medicine to get out of Eurocentrism -and self-centeredness- that governs us without our noticing. There is life beyond our problems or the news that the newspaper highlights on its cover. And although there are thousands of different realities on the continent, it is still true that poverty is the order of the day, and that at this time I have sometimes witnessed very hard situations that have made me value the luck I had for born in a country without war, for having been able to go to school, because until today I have eaten every day and because I have not lost a loved one for an easily treatable disease.

Mind you, I'm not saying that we have to go to Africa to observe the misfortune of others with that disgusting paternalism that does no good to anyone. I say that you will find it along the way at some point and that, whether you like it or not, it will make you think a lot. In my case, it has caused me to reorder my scale of priorities, complain less and feel more grateful for the life that I have lived. We are citizens of a globalized world and it is not bad for us to learn to look beyond our noses.
