SIMPLE IS GOLD

I have often found myself in that difficult place where I have some thoughts or ideas to share but in light of the contributions of others, I felt it sounded too simplistic to reflect on me as a very intelligent person. In the past, on occasions I would swallow my thoughts. On other occasions I would, in my mind, frame it with nice sounding, grand words just so it doesn't come off as too simple.
But I know better now.
Often times, in a bid to impress people or look sophisticated, we complicate things and make progress difficult. There is this mindset that makes people feel like simplifying things will take away the genius in them.
So we speak in big English and fail to communicate our ideas to our audience
And we come up with projects and structures too complex in their concept that we lose team members to confusion
We think simple is not genius. However, simpler is always better. Because your words will make a better impression if every party involved understands them.
Richard Branson once wrote on twitter: “Complexity is your enemy. Any fool can make something complicated. It is hard to make something simple.”
Elon Musk, writing to his staff once said “We don’t want people to have to memorize a glossary just to function at Tesla.”
Yet we find everywhere that people think 'sounding' too smart or sophisticated is the smart thing to do.
If we could be able to sell our ideas or our pitch in simple, relatable language such that everyone understands it, then we will find that simple is more effective. Because in the end what we want is for the other party to understand exactly what we mean.
Embrace simple today. Simple is gold.FB_IMG_15249923638336955.jpg
