Top Chef Season 17 All Stars LA Episode 3 Recap and Thoughts

Top Chef Season 17 All Stars LA Episode 3 was back tonight. We got to see an amazing quickfire challenge followed up by a art inspired elimination challenge. One chef was not inspired and gets sent to Last Chance Kitchen.

First off, I loved the quickfire today. Allie Wong and Randall Park were great guests on the show and sent our contestants on a ridiculous challenge to make fired rice that included at least one ridiculous ingredient. Who often does a dish with hotdogs and cheetos get a win on Top Chef? I wish we got to see more challenges along this vein to help showcase just how incredible these chefs all are.

Alright onto the main course, a dish inspired by an era of art. The chefs were divided into four groups to compete with each group. Each group was to draw inspiration from a art style/era Rococo, Baroque, Neoclassical, and Renaissance. Each group would have a winner and loser.

Our top chefs this week were Bryan, Bryan, Melissa and Eric. Double Bryan time. I think Melissa and Bryan M were the two that really battled for the win but Melissa take it home with a beautiful wonton dish that was described as being near perfect. She made a great dish, drew inspiration from her art period and now has to be a front runner to win the entire show.

Our bottom group consisted of Stephanie, Karen, Jamie and Lee Anne. All four dishes were pretty poor but it should be noted that Kevin was directly called out by the judges for his poor dish but he had immunity from the first challenge. He's been very hit or miss this season with always being on the top or bottom. I really wasn't sure who was going home from the bottom group today. Karen, Jamie and Lee Anne really missed on their dishes but ultimately it was Jamie who gets sent packing for over cooking his chicken and running out of time to get his final ingredient onto his plate. Jamie will head to Last Chance Kitchen to face off against Joe.
