Hummingbird flying

Hummingbirds are birds from the Americas that constitute the own family Trochilidae. They are most of the smallest of birds, most species measuring 7.5–13 cm (3–5 in) in length. Indeed, the smallest extant bird species is a hummingbird, the 5 cm (2.0 in) bee hummingbird weighing much less than 2.Zero g (0.07 oz.).

They are called hummingbirds due to the humming sound created through their beating wings which flap at excessive frequencies audible to humans. They hover in mid-air at speedy wing-flapping fees, which vary from around 12 beats in step with 2nd in the most important species, to in extra of eighty in a number of the smallest. Of the ones species which have been measured in wind tunnels, their top pace exceeds 15 m/s (54 km/h; 34 mph) and some species can dive at speeds in extra of 22 m/s (seventy nine km/h; 49 mph).[1][2]

Hummingbirds have the highest metabolism of any homeothermic animal.[3] To preserve electricity while meals is scarce, and nightly while no longer foraging, they are able to move into torpor, a kingdom similar to hibernation, slowing metabolic charge to 1/fifteenth of its ordinary price.
