They see the location, on the headwaters of Bayou Lacombe, as environmentally sensitive and fear that a landfill — even one that only takes construction and demolition debris — could pollute the bayou, hurt the aquifer and wreck property values.
Interesting article about a proposed landfill in South Louisiana and what the neighbors are thinking of it. I've seen this before and it's hard to convince people that living near a landfill is good for them, even if the landfill if just construction material. Of course the people think that the landfill will be expanded to include all garbage, and they'er probably right about that, the owners will try for sure. I'm all for property rights, but I wouldn't want the traffic and noise either.....
