Is the Visor Making a Comeback? Kim Kardashian West and Dior Think So

in #visor6 years ago

The visor, a mere fragment of a hat, has a reputation as a classic elder accessory, beloved by bridge-playing nanas in Tampa. Stodgy golfers wear the hat snout on the green. The hollow hat was also the signature bro headgear of the noughties, often worn upturned, complemented with bleached tips. Call it visual birth control. Call it cheesy. But, naturally, the visor—like those icky-chic dad shoes and fanny packs—is making a comeback. Look to Kim Kardashian West, who has also heralded the return of the divisive thong heel: She wore a Dior visor from Spring 2018 that boasted a bill-like, face-engulfing, neon-orange clear brim while frolicking at the beach.

Other designers and style stars are also putting their stamp of approval on the half-topper. Burberry churned out its own plaid version, also with a plastic brim, for Fall 2018, for a very late ’90s throwback. Bella Hadid wore a race car–themed checked incarnation down the runway at Tommy Hilfiger for Spring 2018. The visor, after all, has cool, sporty roots. It’s a go-to in the tennis world, worn by powerful players like Serena Williams or Anna Kournikova, who have often color-coordinated the piece to their looks. And even Cindy Crawford wore one with a sports bra and high ponytail in the Vogue July 1991 issue—not a bad look to try out nearly three decades later.

Here, see the best visors to buy for spring and beyond.
