HID, LED, CFL, Flouros... They All Cause Eye Damage
What's worse, the closer you are to the lights the more damaging the effects can be. Micro growing cannabis, with lower intensity lighting, can be just as dangerous to your vision as working with HID lighting in a large grow room. Working in close to lower intensity lighting can create just as much or more damage as HID's at a distance.

Indoor growing has exploded in popularity the last 30 years, and almost all indoor growing requires artificial lighting. The waves of growers complaining of vision issues has just begun to explode. With the passing on of this information to new growers, perhaps we can slow the increase in growers with vision issues as the decades roll by.
