Why the violence? Searching for clues.

in #violence6 years ago

So I've heard rumblings here and there about the potential connection that some pharmaceuticals may have to increased levels of violence in some individuals, particularly the anti-depressant drugs known as SSRI's or Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors. Judging from personal experience with some peers who have taken anti-depressants in the past, and who reported rather frightening side-effects I thought perhaps there may be some merit to these rumors.

So I went looking around on the FDA website and drugs.com for the warnings associated with these drugs.
There's a definite pattern in the potential side-effects of SSRI's. I'm sure some might say "but the probability of suffering those side-effects is very small," but to that I would say, a 0.1% chance of "homicidal ideation" in a sample of patients that numbers in the millions creates a numerical risk in the thousands.

Does anyone else have any insight or science on this?

Furthermore, the FDA knows that these aggressive tendencies are significantly more common among patients under 24 years old:
