New Original Content coming to Viewly!

I've been pulling some all-nighters doing the graphics for D5 which is a project I'm working on with @starkerz and @patrickm.
It's a new video series created especially for Viewly. Thanks to @furion and everyone working on the Viewly project. and a little behind the scenes photos from filming the city scenes.

I used the timelapse in the background

I needed some good footage for the logo builds. I used my old GoPro 3+ Silver Edition. It doesn't shoot in 4K, but the still camera shoots 10MP so a timelapse shot was a good option. Even though I'm doing this project in 1080p I've been wanting to start switching to 4K so this was a good chance to do some tests.

I also have a few useful accessories. Firstly, a strong clamp helps, especially with strong gusts of wind. Then I had a choice of whether or not to use the LCD back. Without the back, the battery would last longer and I'd be able to get more footage. I decided to use it in the end because I would be able to frame my shots properly and test the different configurations.

There are some amazing views in the apartment where I stay so that was an easy choice for a test location. Initially I set the camera to one image every 10 seconds.

I also has some setbacks along the way. Once, I stayed up all night and started capturing at 4am to catch the sunrise. I had a lot of hope for this shot.

I was really exited as the files started copying off the camera. I opened up one or two photos as they were copying and I was optimistic, the quality looked great. I rendered a video and pressed play.

It was looking pretty good and just as the sun started to rise, the video flickered. As you can imagine I was somewhat disappointed, especially after staying up all night. I had a couple hours sleep and woke up refreshed and ready for another attempt.

The sunrise shoot didn't work out so well, but perhaps I would have more luck with the sunset. I picked the most unobstructed spot and set the camera to one photo every half second, hoping the battery would last until the sun had set. I tried to judge how long it would last and hit record.

I sat down to enjoy a well deserved beer and watched the camera flashing away growing more and more pleased as the sun turned red, then slowly descended over the buildings.

I was elated when the camera was still shooting after the giant red orb had descended over the horizon. Not five minutes past sunset, the camera flashed one last time and then turned off.

Ten thousand photos! That's more than six minutes of footage. That meant I could even experiment with some time remapping as well. I had to wait to find out, though. It took more than an hour to copy the photos from my camera.

The late night shots I took of the city traffic after the sun had set were the ones I ended up using for the new Viewly & D5 intro logo.

GREAT work @deimus!! love it!! congrats on the final product, the hard work paid off!

Thanks, bro, it's been a lot of work, but very rewarding to see it all come together!

Gud job

Great work, brotherman @deimus! It's unfortunate that you couldn't get the sunrise. But it seems that you got some great shots of the sunset anyway! @pandamama showed me the viewly page and it looks very cool. That's an app I definitely want! :D

I'm going to feature the sunset timelapse in tonight's post. Keep an eye out for it.

Where is the video of the timelapse? @deimus

Yes - where was it?! This was such a professionally formatted post and I even watched the Ethereum-thing vid (crypto dunce here) when I was looking for the time lapse. Huh :(

@leelektrik and @healingherb

It's in the background of the logos, I added an animated GIF at the end. Subtle, I suppose, haha

The saying goes that hard work never goes unrewarded @deimus and you have worked many hours perfecting your work - well done

Yeah it's a huge relief to finally be done. I'm really excited about D5 and viewly. @starkerz also made a post about the video:

Thanks for your support, @pandamama!

Nice work on this!

Thanks!

Wow, all of your hard work certainly paid off. It all seemed to look really good. I hope to see the final footage on Viewly once I am approved for an account.

I'm loving where this is going!

how is the viewly crowd responding?

Will you make a timelapse with the sunrise somehow?

Thanks, @patrickm. I've had a very positive response from the guys at Viewly. I'll do a follow up post later in the week with some examples of the timelapse videos that I've made.

I'll also keep trying for the perfect sunrise, but I'm going to need some clouds and it's always sunny in Cyprus :)
