Hannah's turns 8 years old (it's a bar)

in #vietnamlast year

There are a lot of watering holes around here that have been around for a long time but few have withstood as much change in the layout and environment of Da Nang as "Hannah's." They have been forced to move because landlords wanted too much rent once the contract was up, they were forced to move because the owners wanted to turn the land into condos, and they were forced to close for nearly a year during Covid... yet they are still here and kickin'.

While Hannah's is also a restaurant, I wouldn't eat there if i were you. They have some of the worst western food in the area and I would tell this to their faces if they were in front of me. They also aren't particularly good at keeping their beer cold and I know why that is. I have seen them restock the coolers and they always stock from the front, they do not rotate the stock. This results in the only cold beers being the ones that are all the way at the back of the fridge and those have probably been there ever since they opened.

I once owned a bar and my staff were initially upset that I enforced a "beer rotation" policy when stocking the coolers, but it didn't take very long for them to understand why. A warm beer, in the way that they are almost always delivered, takes around 8 hours to achieve a nice cold temperature that you want to much in a bottle of beer but for places like Hannah's, they stock the fridge in the same afternoon that they intend to sell the beers in the evening and therefore, at Hannah's you are very likely to receive a warm beer. I hate that.

They do know how to put on a good party though and the frequently will have live music events that i don't know how they get away with them seeing as how the area they are located in are partially residential. The entire establishment is basically outdoors with a made-from-whatever-they-could-find roof on it and it has an opportunity to get VERY hot in there since there isn't a great deal of air circulation either.

So I guess you could say that I don't actually particularly care for Hannah's, and you would be correct in that assumption. I do however admire the fact that they have weathered the storm for a full 8 years because this is quite the accomplishment in this city where even though I have only been here for 3 of the years, I have seen businesses come and go like crazy. It just seems as though staying in business is extremely difficult to do here.

This is a terrible image because my camera is not a good one on my phone and it was already pretty dark in the place at the time.

This is one aspect I really like about Hannah's and that is that it is perfectly ok for you to bring your dog with you if you want to. This little guy is a new addition and you can see that he probably really wants to go home. I would not subject Nadi to such things as the level of noise and people running around, nor the heat. But the dog has a good owner, he just drinks too much. Maybe the dog can help sort him out a bit as far as that is concerned.

Nadi frequently accompanies me to bars also, but if it gets too busy or loud, I always get her out of there. It is nice that Hannah's doesn't have a problem with you brining your dog to their place though, and many of the expat community here have dogs and choose where they are going to hang out based solely upon who isn't going to have a problem with them bringing theirs along.

Hannah's stayed open all night last night from what I hear, but I was out of there around midnight which to me, is already too late to be out anyway.

Even though I don't particularly care for your establishment and think the food is rubbish, I commend you on your longevity Hannah and Co. Happy Birthday to you!
