Team Sonic Racing is coming | New Sonic Racing Game

Team Sonic Racing is the new Sonic the Hedgehog vehicle racing game slated for release later this year. While officially it is not a follow-up to Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, it is still developed by Sumo Digital, creators of the aforementioned game and its prequel, Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing.

From what little we've seen and heard so far, it appears to be focused exclusively on Sonic the Hedgehog and related characters, with tracks based off of levels from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. This means that you won't see Shibuya Downtown or the Curien Mansion, but you may see Green Hill and perhaps even Speed Highway. I cannot truly confirm whether the tracks will be based on Sonic game levels, but it makes sense that they would be.

Three classes of characters have been named: Speed, Technique, and Power. Several different game modes have also been announced: Team Adventure, Grand Prix, Time Trial, and Exhibition. Players can race in teams and use Wisps (from Sonic Colors) as weapons, foregoing items seen in previous Sonic and All-Stars Racing games, and foregoing similar items seen in other mascot racing franchises.

Based on what has previously been seen from Sumo Digital as far as racing games go, Team Sonic Racing should shape up to be a fantastic racing game. The "team" element will be interesting to explore, as well as the different character types. There has also been talk of some vehicle customization, which adds additional depth and replayability. The game is currently available for pre-order at your favorite videogame retailer, and releases this Winter for PC*, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
