What Truck Drivers SHOULD MAKE if they weren't IDIOTS!

in #video6 years ago

Disclaimer: Not all truck driving jobs pay the same, in fact most of them pay absolute shit! This is my own experience and pay and doesn't reflect the Industry Standard.

Wow!!! Do you own your own truck and have to pay for your own gas? Are you driving 7 days a week? I think you should do a follow-up post tomorrow with more details. Is your company hiring? Are they nationwide?

I am a company driver (1099 Employee), I don't pay for crap except my Insurance. They are hiring but jobs are few and far between cause drivers here DO NOT QUIT! They technically are Nationwide but rarely do we go West of a line from Minnesota down to Texas.

Thanks. I've been thinking for a while of getting a CDL and become a truck driver, but what's stopping me is the low initial pay. Question for you, is it correct that most beginner truck drivers make little money ($25k or so) the first couple years?

Also, would a driver find better paid jobs if he gets a CDL through a school instead of through a truck company? Any tips on this?

Definitely go through a school, you can get into a school FREE by signing a contract with a Trucking Company. They will usually pay for the school and deduct a portion of the cost of the school from your check for X amount of time, then once it is paid off they will begin reimbursing you for the deductions at the same rate. Usually takes 2 years to pay off the school and then get paid back for paying off the school. However, the pay rates are usually much higher if you go this route than go through a companies training program.

As far as 1st year pay if you go through a private school you can expect $25-50k USD depending on the company you sign with. There are some companies that have their own schools and only require a 6 month to 1 year contract.....however if your FIRST POST SCHOOL driving job last less than 1 year it is really hard to MOVE UP in pay by changing companies.

If you do 1 year then really hunt hard for a better paying job you can find one. It is entirely possible to make $100k your second year if you find the right job.

Thanks for the quick and informative reply. I didn't know this, I may have to check with some trucking companies in my area who would be willing to pay for my school. That would be reasonable. Any good trustable trucking companies who are known to pay school you could recommend?

Thanks again

Well that is the thing......Good Companies don't hire STUDENTS/ROOKIES.....same goes for REPUTABLE COMPANIES.

Honestly, your first year or two you gonna get f*&ked regularly and without lube! But if you stick with it, keep your record clean and hunt for a better opportunity IT IS WORTH IT IN THE END!

And this applies to long haul truck companies or even the local ones? And, do you know if, as a new driver, can I drive for local companies instead of being on the road all the time?

Appreciate the insight, this is what I definitively needed to know.

Local Truck Driving Jobs require anywhere from 6 months to 10 years OTR experience......so no you can't come out of school and go straight to running local (at least not unless you know someone that owns a trucking company who will hire you with NO OVER THE ROAD experience!

Thanks man for all the insight.
