Why Mexico is Better Than the United States
Fun fact of the day: Someone, somewhere, sometime convinced the English-speaking world to call our favorite fresh salsa "rooster's beak" and we went along with it. Yep, "pico de gallo," the Mexican flag colored salsa. Rooster's beak! No one in Mexico calls it that, we've been made a fool! A fool! Lol
Now that that's out of the way, let's get to why you're really here.
Today we decided to share some insights on just exactly why we've uttered some variation of the phrase, "Yeah, I'm never coming back to the US" so many times in the past few weeks.
What is it about Mexico that's so superior to our home country?
It's not the cost of living, although that's certainly nice. No, it's something else... something.... something that's actually pretty hard to put into words. Still, we gave it a shot to hopefully communicate the magic that exists within Mexico and why we really don't want to go back to our lives in the United States of America.

Wow...never been to Mexico, but after watching your video...I think it's what I can call 'life'...that's what special about it. There's probably a sense of living...without thinking you're being watched or controlled like a robot. How you're free to live..
I've fallen in love with Mexico for a long time. I have a favorite footballer who used to play for the team I support, Manchester United, his name Javier Hernandez Chicharito. I love him so much. I watched his interview one time where he talked about how he grew up in Guadalajara and it's always been a dream to visit Mexico sometime in the future.

Guadalajara is another place on our list of cities we want to visit while in Mexico! Sounds like you've been there before? You make it seem even more enticing than before! It's incredible to be around people who live life to the fullest, not just talk about it.

We could also do a video on why the US is better than Mexico in some ways, but we're really loving it here—everything from the culture to the local produce. I imagine some people want to go to the US for the wages. After talking to people in Mexico, we have learned that it's hard to make enough money to get by.
That's why the great thing about a platform like Steemit is that someone who isn't able to make a good living in the local currency can sometimes make ends meet with blogging/cryptocurrency.
Hi there tangerinetravels! Looks like you are roughing it down there :-) I'll be interested to see if you views change any as you get more and more into the culture and lifestyle of Mexico... When I moved to France I thought it was so amazing (and it is!) but it took me a while to realize that not everything is perfect. But also, if you get too comfortable there, you end up an exile back here! Not to freak you out, just that you end up missing so many things from one place or another that you're never totally satisfied anywhere and want the best of all your worlds at the same time - the human condition I guess...
Also, what you said about the laws - it reminded me of some of the old French philosophers talking about how laws should be the fewest and broadest possible because otherwise you end up with all these obnoxious little laws telling you which side of the street to walk your alligator ;-) And that's just a waste of paper!
Finally, I thought of you when I was walking into school the other day and saw a little tangerine colored Prius there in the parking lot :-)

We thought that we were opening up a can of worms with that title because we thought it'd be controversial, but we didn't get nearly as much backlash as we predicted.
There are already many things we've noticed that we prefer in the US. We could do a whole other video titled "Why The United States Is Better Than Mexico" and then we could alienate not only those from the US but also Mexicans ;)

I hope you didn't think I was criticizing you! Just sharing my own experience really - and to be honest, from the looks of your video, it looks like you're really living it up there :-) As long as you don't mind being a little controversial, you could absolutely do a video about the US being better...I know you've had your share of hiccoughs since you've been there.

No, not at all! We appreciate hearing any and all perspectives. You made some really great points and certainly, only time will tell if our Mexican "honeymoon" phase will continue or if we'll be wishing to come back to our home country eventually. What made you return from France, anything in particular?
I came back for grad school and have been regretting it ever since! Just kidding, sort of. There are pros and cons to both - but we really miss France. I want my son to live there at least for a while at some point, so we really will have to get our act together one of these days to go over for at least a year...we shall see!
In my opinion no country is greater than the other. They are all equal, what makes them set apart is a corrupt central government who run them. We are all brothers and sister and the earth is our home. Just elliminate those central power and we will live in properity. There will be no hunger and tears.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Lots to unpack here. I think we agree with you on the "no country is better than another" thing to a certain extent. If there were no borders, perhaps we would be talking in terms of coordinates rather than countries. Jordan could have a full conversation with you about central governments, but let's save that for another day. ;)
Love your attitude about living in peace with others! That's a great mentality to have.

I find it sad that, even though you can see these things so clearly, many in the US will continue to prefer the "lawmaker" and "enforcer" mentality.
I'm happy for you that you can breathe free for a time, and tell us about it.

I'm not sure people even necessarily "prefer" the lawmaker/enforcer mentality or if they just don't know the difference. We both grew up in that culture and never even thought to question it. Eventually, we just got sick and tired of the social dynamic we were living in and here we are in Mexico noticing them since we have something to compare it to.
It reminds us a little of the frog in boiling water metaphor. The "water" of society heats up so gradually that you don't realize how bad it is until it's too late, you're cooked!
You are no doubt correct that we inherit a perverse world-view to a great extent from the culture we're embedded in. Even so, there are people who do prefer authoritarian approaches. There are people who would control you just as soon as look at you.
I suppose there is an entire spectrum, all the way from the heartless sociopaths who intentionally foster and propagate these governing mentalities, down to those who simply adopt them as an unconscious part of their lives. I hope that a lot at the "lighter" end of that spectrum who read and hear about your story will wake up a bit and realize the harm they are causing others.

Guess it's what makes this world challenging and societies so different. It's not always a great thing, but something we have to work with no matter what. One of our favorite parts of travel is having these eye-opening experiences. Not everyone is able to do it and we hope to enlighten others for good through our adventures/videos.
