GiftedGaia's Favorite Youtube Channel Subscriptions!

in #video8 years ago (edited)

As some of you may know via my rantings this month, I've found myself with a lot of extra free time since my 12/1 employment change. I've spent a wealth of that time on Steemit - as well as reviewing & refining my selected Youtube subscriptions.

Considering that many of us have some extra free time around the holidays - I figured I'd make a post here sharing some of my favorite YT channels in the event that anyone reading this has similar interests and potentially may discover new avenues of information that you were not privy to prior.

Categorized by subject matter in no discernible order - here are GiftedGaia's favorite Youtube subscriptions.

Mixed Martial Arts

Ok, I admit it - what started as a passive curiosity has manifested into a full blown addiction. I've never been a "Sports Guy" though I've enjoyed watching American Football for most of my life.. however this self description has changed 180 degrees since discovering MMA. This sport has straight up ruined watching all other sports for me - as its ranks consist of some of the most World class Male and Female athletes on the planet. Now when I see a NFL player take a big it - I think to myself "Yeah, that guy is certainly 'tough' - but he's not 'Get your arm broken via Arm bar while not tapping out and continuing to keep fighting for 25 minutes' tough."

It amazes me how smart, skilled, and lethal these competitors are when watching them practice their craft. More than once I've heard someone make a homophobic comment in relation to my interest to watching these events - usually along the lines of "Oh you like watching dudes in tights roll around with each other".. to which I always respond "No, however I do enjoy watching real life Ninjas engage in hand to hand combat".

There are the standard pages to find this content - the top selections being: UFC.com , UFC on Fox , and MMA Fighting on SBN (Home of notorious programs such as 'The MMA Hour' and 'MMA Beat').. however I've discovered a few others that give concise or hilariously comical breakdowns on a daily basis. These personal favorite featured selections are:

#1

MMA World - offering a daily rundown on all things MMA in a short 'clip show' style format. You can effectively get a full days synopsis of any pertinent development regarding the sport in these 5-8 minute presentations.

#2

MMA Digest -offering a no fluff, short 2+minute videos of any breaking news regarding the World of mixed martial arts.

#3

Tommy Toe Hold - This is honestly one of the funniest pages on the Internet in my opinion. Tommy offers breakdowns of UFC events & news via a 'South Park' style format, using images of real people on cartoon bodies. His attention to detail regarding the fighter's voices & personalities is nothing short of outstanding, and often has reoccurring inside jokes that follow the characters from episode to episode. In the same model that Trey Parker & Matt Stone can 'hit the proverbial nail on the head' regarding current events using comedy on South Park - Tommy's submissions are some of the best commentary regarding MMA that I've found on the internet.

#4

The Montage King MMA - A channel dedicated to MMA themed montages - ranging from 'Biggest Ref Mistakes' to 'Worst mismatches in MMA'. I could spend hours on this site watching these videos. (and have done so many times)

Comedy

This section is most likely subjective based on your interests - however the noted channels here most certainly appeal to mine. Qualifications for these entries are mostly discovered to list content that will make me literally laugh out loud when viewed.

#1

Ozzy Man Reviews - If you've never seen any of Ozzy Man's videos - do yourself a favor and stop reading this post right now, follow the link, and prepare to laugh. This guy is the master at offering tongue in cheek commentary on viral videos, sports, and current events. I don't remember ever watching any of his submissions while NOT laughing so loudly my neighbors could probably hear. I get excited every time I see a new project listed on his site, and consider him to be one of the funniest men on the planet. I've also had to stop myself from using the word "Dick Head" on more than one occasion since I started absorbing his commentary.

#2

Team Coco - The official Youtube page for Conan O'Brien, this subscription lists some of the funniest sketch comedy I know of. Specific points of interest include:
-The "Clueless Gamer" series, in which Conan pairs with celebrities to play video games that he knows nothing about.
-Any video with Keven Hart or Ice Cube, in which there are a few submissions that have broken 30+ million views .
-Any video with his employee 'Jordan Schlansky', who's abrasive personality is a perfect fit for Conan's comical abuse.
-Any video in which Conan travels to a remote location or country revealing whatever mischief occurs along the way.

#3

Steve Hofstetter - This stand up comedian is the MASTER at putting abusive hecklers in their place. No matter the amount of alcohol consumed, why any person would attempt to interrupt his performances is beyond me - as his quick comedic wit always leaves the offender with tail tucked and sitting in a room full of people laughing at their expense. For anyone who enjoys watching swift social justice served up like a piece of holiday pie - this is the spot for a delicious taste.

Podcasts

As co host of the @SteemitTalk podcast - I've pulled inspiration from many sources. There are several podcasts that I enjoy viewing, so it was somewhat difficult to trim this list down to just a few entries - yet these are the ones that I keep coming back to, time & time again.

#1

PowerfulJRE - In my opinion - as far as podcasts go - The Joe Rogan Experience IS the Eye at the top of the Pyramid. With a wide range of guests from all avenues of life - Joe is an expert at getting his guests to open up about personal issues & knock out a 3+ hour conversation with ease. His shows are comical, entertaining, and insightful. As he fast approaches his 900th episode - I promise that no matter what subject matter you're interested in, you will be able to find an applicable episode to your liking.

#2

King Joe Rogan - The only complaint I've ever heard anyone say about the JRE podcast is that the episodes are too long. While I see the point of how daunting it may be to sit still for a 3+ hour long podcast, I have difficulty accepting that as most people (in my country) will take no issue in spending the same amount of time sitting in front of a television every evening. That said: whomever is operating the 'King Joe Rogan' channel has offered those critics a solution. This channel breaks up episodes of JRE into 5-20 min clips, and titles them by subject matter - meaning you can browse by your interests as opposed to fishing those ideas out of a full episode. This is a great way to capture the best moments of Joe's show without investing too much time.

#3

The Church of What's Happening Now - Mr Joey Diaz is a special Human Being. When this Actor/Comedian tells stories about his life, its hard to believe that he's not reading a script from a movie. This man has walked a path that few of us will ever experience, and has a method of retelling those events in epic and hilarious fashion.

#4

The Monday Morning Podcast - If I were to describe comedian Bill Burr's craft to you, I would say that he is the best example of taking an unpopular opinion that you know you disagree with, and presenting it in comedic fashion that will leave you laughing. Unlike the other podcasts listed above - Bill hosts no guests during his sessions and has no issue sitting down and knocking out an hour+ long recording alone without it ever seeming to get boring. He is highly respected by fellow comedians, and offers 'on point' observations about how he sees the world around him.

#5

Bad Guy Inc - Hosted by MMA fighter Chael Sonnen, this MMA themed podcast offer's Chael's respected insights on the sport and fighters who participate. Widely regarded as one of the best minds in MMA, this one is a personal favorite of mine. Chael often breaks news before anyone else does and is infamous for playing the role of 'The Bad Guy' when fighting himself.

Video Games

I was never really into video games that much as a child. Yes, I did have both an NES & Super NES growing up that I spent some time on, but phasing into my early teenage years I lost interest in those past times well before the rest of my friends & family did. Fast forward some 20 years later, and I've now spent over $1000 on my Steam account in the past 3 years. (Not including what's been spent on my Origin, Uplay, or League of Legends accounts) Since diving back into these hobbies I've picked up a couple of Youtube subscriptions along the way. Below are a few of my favorites.

#1

Gameranx - Gameranx offers outstanding commentary on all things regarding the world of video games. From informative 'before you buy' guides, to thought provoking 'fan theory' discussions - this page is applicable viewing for anyone who has an interest in modern day gaming.

#2

Smosh Games - I'll be honest: I don't like all the videos offered by this page, but I do REALLY like a series they do called "Honest Game Trailers". I'm sure most all of you have seen or heard of "Honest Movie Trailers", which seem to break viral every submission. These are the same format - however regarding video games. I find those entries to be hilarious and usually fairly accurate.

#3

Zoomin Games - There are many pages on Youtube that offer 'Top 10' style lists. Zoomin Games is my favorite page that does so in relation to video game subject matter ranging from 'Top final bosses' to 'Top Awkward cut scenes'.

Random Entertainment

I have many subscriptions that would fall under the category of 'Random Entertainment'. These listings range in topic and subject matter.

#1

Brave Wilderness - hosted by Animal & Nature enthusiast Coyote Peterson, this channel follows Coyote as he seeks out adventures in the wild. He's recently achieved viral video fame as his serious on exploring the effects of getting stung by insects ranked highest on the pain index has left him writhing on the ground in front of the world.

#2

Fight Tips - An excellent channel full of credible information on learning different fight and self defense techniques. I personally feel like I've gained a lot of knowledge regarding this subject matter since finding this page.

#3

Alt Shift X - In my opinion - this channel offers the very best summations and fan theory discussions related to 'Game of Thrones' I've found online. Required viewing for anyone who considers themselves a fan of George RR Martin's masterpiece.

#4

Vox - A no nonsense look at a wide array of topics ranging from history to current events.

#5

Dark 5 - A 'Top 5' list presentation style discussing subjects that are mysterious, creepy, and unexplained.

#6

Vice - The infamous alt news organization turned billion dollar global conglomerate that presents videos on a multitude of entertaining & thought provoking subject matter.

#7

Photography is Not a Crime - A journalism project aimed at upholding constitutionally protected first amendment rights by aiming cameras directly at corrupt law enforcement entities. Say what you will about their methods - as someone who enjoys taking Quadcopter photography myself - I've experienced backlash from members of the public who do not understand how privacy laws work, and this organization is doing their best to educate both police and the public regarding those laws.

#8

SecureTeam10 - I've purposefully left all my 'Down the Rabbit hole' conspiracy subscriptions off this list, however this one deserves acknowledgement. In my opinion: Tyler does a great job on this channel at analyzing and discussing UFO sightings and other unexplained Mysteries of the Universe without diving too far into the deep end.

And lastly - a special shout out, acknowledgement, and honorable mention to Steemit's very own favorite videographer - Mr. @Winstonwolfe.

Winston has been a best buddy of mine for well over a decade now. In that time I've seen his passion for photography grow into a successfully viable business with the help of his lovely fiance @jazzyfish - including their recent nomination for "Best photographer in the Ozarks" in a competition hosted by a local media outlet. His talent is beyond apparent when viewing his Youtube channel, which consists of many amazing projects.

His most recent efforts have rewarded the Steemit community with a crowd sourced video that captures a small glimpse as to who we as Steemians are - via the TIYM (this is your moment) project. If you liked TIYM - I strongly advise you check out some of his other creative works by visiting his channel here.

And that my friends is the summation of some of my favorite Youtube subscriptions. I hope you enjoyed - and sincerely wish you all a Safe & Happy Holiday!

Kind Regards,

~GiftedGaia
