Helping DTube to help us!
Hi all.
This post is just to bring attention to the Tutorials I am going to upload to DTube. It will take time to Export, process and upload, they will follow this post.
Backstory...
So in my last post I covered an e-mail that hundreds of thousands of small channels have received today, regarding changes to the YouTube Partnership Program.

I think this is going to mean a HUGE influx of users to DTube, BitChute and other great alternative video sharing platforms.
I for one think that DTube seriously has the potential to become YouTube's main competitor, if not successor!
BUT....
We MUST help out these fledgling sites and not have them strain, buckle or break under the pressure of the sheer amount of data, traffic and crunching of the files being sent to them.
So, I'm going to do my part and re-post to DTube the series of Tutorials I did on HandBrake. It is an open-source and freely available piece of software that will, with some tinkering and testing enable you to output a file to upload to DTube (or any other video sharing site) that is anywhere between 10-25% the size of the original video file (depending on the quality and complexity of the scenes in the video) that you may have uploaded.
The Tutorials were made back in my YouTube days so it mentions using .mkv and why that format should be used for YouTube (this could still be relevant to those still uploading to YouTube of course) but the principles and the use of the program and what I talk about is all still relevant and I hope it means that anyone who decides to make use of HandBrake will have a much better experience uploading their often very LARGE video files to websites than before using it.
Also the Tutorials will be uploaded in order that you would HandBrake in your video creation process and not in the order that I did them. So you will notice I make reference to previous video's in the first video. But you haven't missed anything.
For DTube the devs recommend uploading in .mp4, so please ensure HandBrake outputs as .mp4
It can take many many hours sometimes to upload video files, especially if you are travelling and do not have access to a fast hard wired internet line. Using HandBrake can help with this a lot and by using some of our computer processing power to create an optimised file, we can help DTube and other sites out by not having to increase expenditure in buying/renting additional hardware and instead allow them to focus on coding and bug fixing and getting other members into the team that can help make it even more viable!

I've just checked my installed progs on Ubuntu, Linux and it appears I installed handbrake many, many, many months ago, I don't think I've ever used it. I to will be reloading 'old' YouTube stuff to Dtube of the coming weeks and months. Unfortunately I'll have to try and download most of my vids off utube before reuploading. 'Handbraking' them will hopefully not strain Dtube :)
Fortunately I have all my video's in iMovie in their finished edited state and can re-export them and then HandBrake them. I started out saving the .mkv versions for YouTube and then stopped doing that. I wish now that I'd saved a .mp4. Although actually I can update the graphics and intro/outro on them now. There is some silver lining to this YouTube storm cloud.
Yes, a silver lining indeed :)
