High Percentage Finishing Techniques for the Armbar.
How often do you go through all of the hard work to catch an Armbar but then you are unable to finish?
The Armbar is probably the most recognizable technique in Jiu Jitsu and is still the number 2 most commonly used submission in Jiu Jitsu second only to chokes from the back position (According to IBJJF Words 2017 Data): https://www.bjjheroes.com/editorial/ibjjf-worlds-2017-crunching-numbers-3-0.
One of the reasons the Armbar is so widely utilized is because of its versatility, you can hit them from almost anywhere. However, while setting up and catching an opponent in an Armbar is difficult enough, finishing one could be just as difficult. In this video we show a few options to use when you catch someone in an Armbar but they clasp their hands together in defense. Always remember, never fight force with force use leverage when you can or switch your attack. If you want the Armbar, go for the sweep, if you want the sweep go for a choke and force them to defend. That angle on the first one is killer. I find if I can't break it with the angle alone, I am not using my core to pull (just arms).
