A movie so nice, they named it twice, and by nice, I mean good.

This is a very funny comedy, starring a great cast and was directed by Norman Jewison who also directed In the Heat of the Night.

It's about a Russian submarine that runs aground off the coast of New England during the cold war. The sub's captain sends a landing party to a nearby island to see if they can find some motor boats that can pull the sub off the sandbar. When the Russians (led by Alan Arkin) come across some of the islanders, they pretend they are Norwegian fishermen, despite their thick Russian accents. Once their secret is discovered, chaos ensues.

I've noticed a lot of similarities between this film and The Iron Giant and I've no doubt that the creators of the latter were influenced by the former.

I've seen this movie so many times, I've lost count. I absolutely love it. The cast is superb including Arkin, Brian Keith, Carl Reiner, Eva Marie Saint, Jonathan Winters and John Philip Law.

Score: 5/5
