What do we do about Venezuela as a crypto community?

in #venezuela6 years ago

We see today Venezuela robbed by its own elected government and now keeps people constantly hungry in order to stay in power.

People are desperate and crazy inflation has literally destroyed any participation in the economy.

So we have this opportunity to help as a crypto community to make a difference, but there is a lot of issues to get Venezuelans onboard crypto platforms.

Most ways to access cryptocurrencies requires a smartphone/computer and internet connection. This is often a requirement for both parties (sender and receiver). There are a few services that can work from normal feature phones through SMS, but it still requires a SIM card (cell service might not be stable/cheap enough for those users anyway).

So I have a few ideas and I would like to hear your opinions on how to make them better or your own ideas in the comments:

  1. Collect used smartphones from USA and other parts of the world, ship them to Colombia and smuggle them in through entrusted people. Every smartphone includes a leaflet in Spanish explaining how to install one crypto wallet and how to use it and secure it (important). First, serve individuals or families (1 per family) who can pay a very small amount for the smartphone (early adopters with some resources) and then progress the adoption from there.
  2. Create a website (or several) that is community driven and build up clear and direct information on how to participate in the crypto community. Let it be easy to get onboard and only select a few cryptocurrencies in order to get fast on-boarding and not be overwhelmed by all the choices that are out there. Show them how they can use their skills online to earn money (if they have computer access) with payments in crypto to their wallet. Maybe include the crypto jobs directly on that website (would be cheap work and there is plenty of educated people in Venezuela that can provide great value to you or your company).
  3. Create a crypto faucet that will automatically donate 2 USD a month to users that have been verified receivers of used smartphones and has set up wallets through entrusted people who distributed the smartphones in the first place. This could make adoption fast and interesting!

So these ideas are rough and more inputs are needed from you in order to make these ideas better and new ideas. I can participate in making the website(s) needed (I will need people who can translate it properly to their native language Spanish).

Thank you for time and please watch the video to get a current view on the situation in Venezuela.
