Economic Collapse! What can we do for the People of Venezuela?

I wrote about Venezuela 2 days ago, and now I want to update you, and present some ideas.

As you know, there is an economic crisis underway right now, with shortages of basic items, long waits, and hyperinflation of the currency "sovereign bolivar".

I have made friends and heard more stories from real people inside the country, who are living in this difficult situation every day. (Read even more of their stories in the comments.) One told me he got a credit card 11 years ago when he got married, and used it to buy several appliances for his new place. Today, that same credit card can only buy a few small groceries and then it's full! Another friend says that 5 zeros were dropped from the currency, in order to hide the huge inflation, but this only caused more turmoil in the markets and more suffering. Basic needs like baby food and medicines are unavailable to many who need them. As I reported before, many families have moved into rural areas to camp in nature and live off food growing wild.

Here's my friend Edgar (@edgargonzalez) - photo taken this morning. He used to be a professional, and his baby is 11 months old. Today he was fishing from a broken raft, which sank, but at least he caught dinner first!

No offense to Edgar at all. The sad reality is, this is the "middle class" of Venezuela today in 2018. This secret can no longer be contained!

But it's more than just the economy...

There is more going on than simple economic crisis, which itself is bad enough.

Sinister forces appear to be at work, keeping the crisis going, lying to the public, and stopping any resistance. These people appear to be within the country's own government. Some citizens simply can't believe their government could be so corrupt that this is possible, but many have seen this truth with their own eyes. Too many have spoken out and the stories can't be dismissed anymore. (This problem actually seemed to be happening everywhere, in various forms, with different flavours. But that is for another post.)

At times, internet access is restricted, or even shut down. There are agents of the government working online to monitor and target anyone they see as enemies. Freedom of speech AND access to information is being seriously threatened.

One of my contacts told me anonymously that many people are harassed for questioning the government or trying to spread awareness of the problem to the rest of the world. I think that's why it's so important that I make these posts. As a Canadian, there is very little the corrupt members of the government of Venezuela can do to me. (Actually, I am probably not liked by some within the Canadian government, too! So why not also anger some propagandists and liars from other places?)

Sadly, some Venezuelans who question authority don't only receive harassment and threats, but some are found dead, or go missing. There's a lot of history involved, I admit that I don't know the full story from every angle, but I can already see that the people are not being respected, and the government has too much control.

Which came first, the evil government or the economic crisis? Does one cause and reinforce the other?

And what can end this nightmare, so the people can resume their lives, secure their futures, and begin to heal?

One thing I have always believed in and advocated for is the free market. I made this image years ago to help people understand what a FREE and FAIR market really is. It was made with medicinal cannabis in mind, but the same concepts apply to other things, like food! In most places, food prices are determined by the free market. But in Venezuela, food prices are determined mostly by the government!

Price fixing of food is happening in Venezuela, and it has led to rampant inflation, hoarding, gouging, theft, violence, and deaths. Now we are going to try price fixing on cannabis here in Canada, once it is "legal" in October!? When governments decide the price of something and don't allow the forces of supply and demand to set the price, the supply and the demand become distorted. Before long, there is economic crisis and hyperinflation, as we see in Venezuela today, as we saw in Zimbabwe in 2007, and as we saw in Weimar Germany several decades ago.

What I Can Do

There are poor people even here in Canada, and I am one of them. Just as people here have a false idea of what is happening in Venezuela, people there have a false idea of what is happening here. Yes, many people here have fancy cars, nice houses, lots of food, and luxuries. But about 1 in 5 Canadians is poor, and even in this "first world" country, there are many hungry and many without a bed. Society here is in decline too, but our media doesn't report it, and our government tries to hide it with numbers tricks and other propaganda. I think it is probably similar in many countries.

For many years I've been an activist who fights for the rights of the people. I'm not against all governments, but I'm definitely against all corruption, all aggression, all over-regulation, all unjust laws, and all terrorism. Those who are guilty of these things stand accused of their crimes. I don't have to point any fingers. I am only here with information, with truth, with peace, and to empower the people.

Steemit is an excellent platform to help Venezuelans!

• potential to make enough Steem to buy groceries and supplies
• uncensored information source
• ability to connect with others and find help
• a secure source of "money" the government can't touch
• free and instant Steem transfers anywhere in the world
• transparency helps prevent abuses and injustice

Of course, these advantages help many people, not just those in Venezuela, but it's those people I'm concerned about today.

My contacts have told me that Steem goes a LONG way toward groceries and supplies! 5 Steem bought my friend several bags full. The Bolivar's value changes (drops) every day and is harder and harder to use. Cryptocurrencies (especially decentralized ones) are empowering people all over! This is a great thing!

As I've mentioned, I haven't got enough Steem myself to help those in need. I'm saving up for a new camera so I can continue my videos and photography here. I myself was homeless and hungry less than one year ago.

But I know a few hundred Steemians of high quality, who might have a few digital units they can contribute! And those who can't, will consider sharing my post with others. ; )

Like I said, Steem spends VERY well in Venezuela, so what might buy you dinner (20 Steem) might buy a whole family food and medicine for a week. Not only that, but it provides them some autonomy and a little bit of freedom, something they badly need, right away!

What you can do (non-Venezuelans):

• think about your immediate personal safety first
• if you think you may be targeted for saying something publicly, proceed with caution
• when it's safe to do so, tell your story and describe your situation there in Venezuela
• either make posts about yourself and your life, or write about it here in the comments

• continue to learn about cryptocurrencies and related topics
• from your elder family members (or the internet), learn about natural food and medicine sources you can find nearby
• try not to lose hope, always believe better things are possible, and do what you can to make it happen

Buy a man a fish, he eats today. Teach him to fish, he feeds himself for life.

Even though Edgar already knows how to fish (lol), the point is that a little bit of money is great, but learning how to earn money is even better! Perhaps we can boost our Venezeulan friends' income on Steemit?

Escribí sobre Venezuela hace 2 días, y ahora quiero actualizarte, y presentar algunas ideas.

Como ustedes saben, hay una crisis económica en curso en este momento, con escasez de artículos básicos, largas esperas e hiperinflación de la moneda "soberano Bolívar".

He hecho amigos y he escuchado más historias de personas reales dentro del país, que están viviendo en esta difícil situación todos los días. (leer aún más de sus historias en los comentarios.) Uno me dijo que tenía una tarjeta de crédito hace 11 años cuando se casó, y lo usó para comprar varios aparatos para su nuevo lugar. Hoy en día, la misma tarjeta de crédito sólo puede comprar unos pocos comestibles pequeños y luego está lleno! Otro amigo dice que 5 ceros fueron retirados de la moneda, con el fin de ocultar la inflación enorme, pero esto sólo causó más agitación en los mercados y más sufrimiento. Las necesidades básicas como los alimentos para bebés y los medicamentos no están disponibles para muchos que los necesitan. Como informé antes, muchas familias se han mudado a las zonas rurales para acampar en la naturaleza y vivir de la comida que crece salvaje.

Sin ofender a Edgar. La triste realidad es que esta es la "clase media" de Venezuela hoy en 2018. ¡Este secreto ya no se puede contener!

Pero es más que sólo la economía...

Hay más en marcha que una simple crisis económica, que en sí misma es bastante mala.

Las fuerzas siniestras parecen estar en el trabajo, manteniendo la crisis en marcha, mintiendo al público, y deteniendo cualquier resistencia. Estas personas parecen estar dentro del propio gobierno del país. Algunos ciudadanos simplemente no pueden creer que su gobierno podría ser tan corrupto que esto es posible, pero muchos han visto esta verdad con sus propios ojos. Muchos han hablado y las historias ya no se pueden descartar. (Este problema en realidad parecía estar sucediendo en todas partes, en varias formas, con diferentes sabores. Pero eso es para otro post.)

A veces, el acceso a Internet es restringido o incluso cerrado. Hay agentes del gobierno trabajando en línea para monitorear y atacar a cualquiera que vean como enemigos. La libertad de expresión y el acceso a la información están siendo seriamente amenazadas.

Uno de mis contactos me dijo anónimamente que muchas personas son acosadas por cuestionar al gobierno o tratar de difundir el conocimiento del problema al resto del mundo. Creo que por eso es tan importante que haga estos posts. Como canadiense, hay muy poco que los miembros corruptos del gobierno de Venezuela puedan hacerme. (En realidad, probablemente no me gusta algunos dentro del gobierno canadiense, también! ¿por qué no también enojar a algunos propagandistas y a mentirosos de otros lugares?)

Lamentablemente, algunos Venezolanos que cuestionan la autoridad no sólo reciben acoso y amenazas, sino que algunos son encontrados muertos o desaparecidos. Hay mucha historia involucrada, admito que no conozco la historia completa desde todos los ángulos, pero ya puedo ver que la gente no está siendo respetada, y el gobierno tiene demasiado control.

¿Cuál vino primero, el gobierno malvado o la crisis económica? ¿una causa y refuerza la otra?

¿Y qué puede poner fin a esta pesadilla, para que la gente pueda reanudar sus vidas, asegurar su futuro y comenzar a sanar?

Una cosa en la que siempre he creído y defendido es el libre mercado. Hice esta imagen hace años para ayudar a la gente a entender lo que realmente es un mercado libre y justo. Se hizo con el cannabis medicinal en mente, pero los mismos conceptos se aplican a otras cosas, como la comida! En la mayoría de los lugares, los precios de los alimentos son determinados por el mercado libre. Pero en Venezuela, los precios de los alimentos son determinados principalmente por el gobierno!

La fijación de los precios de los alimentos está ocurriendo en Venezuela, y ha llevado a una inflación rampante, acaparamiento, sobrecortes, robo, violencia y muertes. Ahora vamos a probar la fijación de precios en el cannabis aquí en Canadá, una vez que es "legal" en octubre! Cuando los gobiernos deciden el precio de algo y no permiten que las fuerzas de la oferta y la demanda fijen el precio, la oferta y la demanda se distorsionan. En poco tiempo, hay crisis económica e hiperinflación, como vemos en Venezuela hoy, como vimos en Zimbabwe en 2007, y como vimos en Weimar Alemania hace varias décadas.

Lo que puedo hacer

Hay gente pobre incluso aquí en Canadá, y yo soy uno de ellos. Así como la gente aquí tiene una idea falsa de lo que está sucediendo en Venezuela, la gente no tiene una idea falsa de lo que está sucediendo aquí. Sí, mucha gente aquí tiene autos elegantes, casas bonitas, mucha comida y lujos. Pero alrededor de 1 de cada 5 canadienses es pobre, e incluso en este país "primer mundo", hay muchos hambrientos y muchos sin cama. La sociedad aquí también está en declive, pero nuestros medios de comunicación no lo denuncian, y nuestro gobierno trata de ocultarlo con trucos de números y otras propaganda. Creo que es probablemente similar en muchos países.

Durante muchos años he sido un activista que lucha por los derechos de la gente. No estoy en contra de todos los gobiernos, pero definitivamente estoy en contra de toda corrupción, toda agresión, toda reglamentación, todas las leyes injustas, y todo el terrorismo. Los que son culpables de estas cosas están acusados de sus crímenes. No tengo que señalar ningún dedo. Sólo estoy aquí con la información, con la verdad, con la paz, y para empoderar al pueblo.

Steemit es una excelente plataforma para ayudar a los Venezolanos!

Por supuesto, estas ventajas ayudan a muchas personas, no sólo a las de Venezuela, sino a las personas que me preocupan hoy.

Mis contactos me han dicho que autoestima va un largo camino hacia los comestibles y suministros! 5 autoestima comprado mi amigo varias maletas llenas. El valor del Bolívar cambia cada día y es más difícil de usar. Cryptocurrencies (especialmente los descentralizados) están empoderando a la gente por todas partes! ¡Esto es una gran cosa!

Como he mencionado, no tengo suficiente autoestima para ayudar a los necesitados. Estoy ahorrando para una nueva cámara para que pueda continuar mis videos y la fotografía aquí. Yo mismo estaba sin hogar y hambriento hace menos de un año.

Pero sé que unos pocos cientos de Steemians de alta calidad, que podrían tener algunas unidades digitales que pueden contribuir! Y los que no pueden, considerarán compartir mi puesto con otros. ; )

Como he dicho, autoestima pasa muy bien en Venezuela, así que lo que podría comprar la cena (20 autoestima) podría comprar una comida de la familia entera y la medicina durante una semana. No sólo eso, sino que les proporciona autonomía y un poco de libertad, algo que necesitan de inmediato.
