[Mission Aguapossible] Our mission, and we choose to accept it, is to bring water to a thirsty Venezuelan neighborhood!

This is week 10 of Mission Agua-possible! (Ver Español abajo.) We're gathering Steem equal to 1300 USD, to buy a pump for a neighborhood well. This will instantly provide years of clean drinking water for several families and a small farm in crisis-stricken Venezuela!

Background

Severe economic and political crisis over the past few years in the South American country of Venezuela intensified recently, as president Maduro doubled down on his currency manipulation, price-fixing, propagandizing citizens, and suppressing resistance. You may recall an attempted "drone attack" with explosives a few months ago - that's Venezuela. But it's far worse than the world's media is telling us.

I met a few interesting people from Venezuela, and I started to hear their stories - and ask questions. I discovered the dark truth about the economic and political situation there. Shops are empty, people are hungry - the economy is at a standstill. Theft, corruption, and violence escalate as society breaks down. Millions are fleeing on foot - if they can escape. The harsh socialist government attempts to control almost every aspect of life, and blames problems on the people. Most government services (like running water) work only in certain areas - or not at all. A few weeks ago, Maduro announced that Venezuela will no longer accept US Dollars for oil exports, then tried to get his country's gold back from Bank of England, who refused, claiming he would steal it.

In the midst of all this, I met Edgar (@edgargonzalez), a Venezuelan man about my age. He's a father of young children, and a professional whose job disappeared because of the crisis. He feeds his family by fishing, foraging for fruits, and growing cassava on his late-father's plantation. He uses Steemit to share his stories and make Steem to buy food. Shortly after I met Edgar, a power outage caused a failure of the pump used to bring water up to the farm. A repairman confirmed the pump is beyond fixing. Edgar had been using his well to water his crops, and to provide drinking water to his children and other families in the neighborhood. Without a pump to bring water up from the aquifer, his gardens have withered - and the neighborhood must forage for water elsewhere.

Without government water services, and now without water from his well, Edgar and a few other families are in a dire situation. When I heard about this, through Steemit, I realized that Steemit could also be the SOLUTION!

That's when I stepped forward with Mission Agua-possible! Once we gather 1300 USD worth of Steem, I'll transfer it to Edgar, to be converted to cash to buy the pump.

Getting water flowing on the farm as soon as possible is vital. Water is life!

We had another great week of progress!

I reported last week that the community had started to rally around the cause. Momentum has continued to grow, despite the overall slowdown on Steemit due to the cryptocurrency price crash. Two members (@jk6276 and @hempy) combined to contribute 5.5 Steem directly! Thanks, guys! We continue to get tip support from @melinda010100, and @simonjay came through with another 0.2 Steem! It was our second best week ever (after only the premier week), but the crashing USD price of Steem saw our overall progress fall yet again, now to below 2% for the first time. This puts our goal even further out of reach. Luckily, a recovery is expected soon. Until then, all we can do is accumulate Steem as quickly as possible.

If Steem goes back up to 8 USD tomorrow, we'll be almost half way to completion!

La grave crisis económica y política de los últimos años en el país sudamericano de Venezuela se intensificó recientemente, ya que el Presidente maduro se duplicó en su manipulación monetaria, fijación de precios, ciudadanos propagandizing y supresión de la resistencia. Usted puede recordar un intento de "ataque drone" con explosivos hace unos meses-que es Venezuela. Pero es mucho peor de lo que nos dicen los medios de comunicación del mundo.

Conocí a algunas personas interesantes de Venezuela, y comencé a escuchar sus historias y a hacer preguntas. Descubrí la oscura verdad sobre la situación económica y política allí. Las tiendas están vacías, la gente tiene hambre-la economía está paralizada. El robo, la corrupción y la violencia aumentan a medida que la sociedad se descompone. Millones huyen a pie, si pueden escapar. El duro gobierno socialista intenta controlar casi todos los aspectos de la vida, y culpa a la gente de los problemas. La mayoría de los servicios del gobierno (como el agua corriente) trabajan solamente en ciertas áreas-o no en todos. Hace unas semanas, maduro anunció que Venezuela ya no aceptará dólares estadounidenses para las exportaciones de petróleo, y luego trató de recuperar el oro de su país del Banco de Inglaterra, quien se negó, alegando que lo robaría.

En medio de todo esto, conocí a Edgar (@edgargonzalez), un hombre venezolano de mi edad. Es un padre de niños pequeños, y un profesional cuyo trabajo desapareció debido a la crisis. Alimenta a su familia por la pesca, el forrajeo de frutas, y el cultivo de yuca en la plantación de su padre tardío. Él utiliza Steemit para compartir sus historias y hacer Steem para comprar comida. Poco después de conocer a Edgar, un apagón causó un fallo de la bomba utilizada para llevar agua a la granja. UN reparador confirmó que la bomba está más allá de la fijación. Edgar había estado usando su pozo para regar sus cosechas, y para proveer agua potable a sus niños y otras familias en el vecindario. Sin una bomba para traer agua del acuífero, sus jardines se han marchitado-y el vecindario debe forrajear para el agua en otro lugar.

Sin los servicios públicos de agua, y ahora sin agua de su pozo, Edgar y algunas otras familias están en una situación calamitosa. Cuando me enteré de esto, a través de Steemit, me di cuenta de que Steemit también podría ser la solución!

Fue entonces cuando me acerqué a Mission agua-posible! Una vez que recojamos 1300 dólares de Steem, lo transferiré a Edgar, para convertirlo en efectivo para comprar la bomba.

Es vital obtener agua que fluya en la granja lo antes posible.

Fue nuestra segunda mejor semana (después de sólo la semana Premier), pero el precio de chocar USD de Steem vio nuestro progreso general caer una vez más, ahora a menos del 2% por primera vez. Esto pone nuestro objetivo aún más lejos de nuestro alcance. Afortunadamente, pronto se espera una recuperación. Hasta entonces, todo lo que podemos hacer es acumular Steem lo más rápido posible.

Si Steem vuelve a 8 USD mañana, estaremos casi a mitad de camino a la terminación!
