Virtual reality and augmented reality are relatively young technologies, but they can change the way we live. For example, virtual reality, which replaces our sensory perceptions with images and sounds generated by a computer, has the power to transport us elsewhere. When in a virtual reality experience we are at the top of a skyscraper, even if we consciously know that we are safe at home, part of our brain still transmits all those sensations, such as vertigo, that you could try if you were 100 meters high from soil.

Through these virtual worlds we have the possibility to experience first-hand experiences of any kind and also to interact with distant people and objects, as if we were really in the same place. Instead, augmented reality superimposes information and digital objects to the reality that surrounds us, improving our senses, through the use of special lenses for augmented reality, which allow us to continue seeing the real world that surrounds us.

What has allowed the evolution of these technologies?
The convergence of a set of factors, such as the enormous increase in computing power in recent years, the availability of very high resolution LCD screens and the miniaturization of technology has made possible the rapid evolution of these technologies to the point that The first products aimed at large audiences such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive or GearVR are already commercialized. Of course, these first products are still improvable, but the potential of these technologies in the future is already clearly visible.
