83 Years Ago The Spitfire Made its Maiden Flight - By Steve J Huggett
On 5th March 1936, the Spitfire took to the skies for the first time, some 83 years ago. Such an Icon with its elliptical wing and the sound of that Merlin Engine. Luckily there are some 60 airworthy planes around the world.

Old planes are pretty in thew air.
Yep, there sure are. Won't be long before it's Airshow season :)
These are awesome! I love Spitfires. Such great shots!
Thanks @goat-girlz As much as the Spitfire is the famous one, I'm more of a Hurricane person as my grandfather worked for the Hawker Aircraft Company. Both great to see flying :)
Oh, me too! I love the fact that a plane with a fabric-covered body could be so effective. The Spitfire gets all the press though.
I know it is remarkable. The Spitfire was the poster girl of planes !
I can't wait to get my R/C Spitfire repairs fixed so I can actually fly it!
Sounds like it had its own battle!
Well...not necessarily repairs, more like misc part upgrades. It's only had a few short flights due to engine issue caused by the fuel tank clunk getting stuck at front of tank...and those flights I wasn't flying it because I was taking photos/video for the review. So, I'll be anxious to get some stick time on it this summer...many have said it's a great flyer!

It looks pretty cool! A TV channel over here ran a "Battle of Britain" dogfight with RC planes.

Well damn, it says "The service is not currently available in your area." :(
That's typical!
