The upo vegetable as a dish

Upo or bottle gourd in English is a kind of huge green vegetable fruit, that is used as main dish. You can use this upo in ginisa or sauteed bottle gourd with tomato, garlic and some pork meaty flavor, that adds texture and savor in this meal.

Ginisang upo is a Pinoy recipe that can be prepare as our dish in our daily lives. You can use other types of meat as its flavor, like fish, shrimp, sardines in a can which is the best partner of this meal or beef, adding some scrambled egg will do sometimes. The bottle gourd texture and appearance looks like a chayote or sayote, it has almost the same taste, look and color as well. The upo size and shape is usually ellipse and it is the most common, or sometimes it is round.

This vegetable fruit also offers lots of good benefits in our body. It can reduce the blood sugar level in our body. It is good for weight loss. It has cooling temperature effect in our body, because its content has lots of liquid. It can be use as a hydrate, can be use to mix with a juice, like water melon. Because of its well know freshness and good benefits, this vegetable can be eat directly, without cooking it. Just cut it into a small pieces, then dip into your prepared sauce or salt, just like an unripe mango eating. There's no bitter taste in this food. I eat the fresh cut upo, while I am preparing an upo dish. Its firmness and freshness gives me more appetite on eating it.
