An A-Z guide to vegan staples | Never go hungry with these foods ๐ฅ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐
As a nutritionist that focuses specifically on plant-based (vegan) food sources, I often get asked the age old question;
โBut, what do you eat?โ
So I figured I would compile a list of the main vegan staples that I try to always have on hand. Even if you have 70% of these ingredients you'll be able to make some killer dishes.
Avocado is great on just about everything - salads, sandwiches, pizzas or with rice and beans.
Could broccoli be the ultimate vegetable? Seriously, at what point is it an addiction?
Cashews are fantastic as snacks - and they can take desserts to the next level.
Need a sugar substitute for baking? Use dates, they are super sweet and full of fibre.
Frozen edamame is a great way to add some serious protein power to any dish.
Flax (or linseed) is full of healthy fats and great in your morning oats or smoothie.
Want more flavour in a savoury dish? Garlic will gladly step in to pull the weight.
Who knew chickpea paste would be so delicious? The perfect spread for wraps.
Crunchy lettuce in salads and sandwiches is the best. Spinach is a good substitute too.
Pulled BBQ jackfruit, the meatiest vegan dish you could make. Throw it on pizzas or buns.
Did someone say nachos? You best believe Iโm not forgetting the kidney beans.
Need acidity and zing? Lemons will be there for you in your hour of need.
Juicy roasted mushrooms bathed in salt and rosemary. Your mouth is watering, right?
The healthiest snack just might be a handful of nuts. Diversify and eat a mix of them.
Like our friend, garlic, onion is possibly the most versatile and ubiquitous vegetable.
Oh you thought the mushrooms were good - donโt forget about crispy roast potatoes!
The stronger cousin of rice has a great amino acid profile, giving you high quality protein.
The ultimate staple is rice, buy it in bulk and you will be fed for the coming months.
Just like nuts, a stash of seeds are great to add to snacks like trail mixes or for topping salads.
Fresh or canned, tomatoes can make great sauces in just about every type of cuisine.
Got udon noodles and any of the previous ingredients? Now you have a stir-fry.
Vinegar for salad dressings. White, balsamic, whatever - just add it you will thank me.
A lot of fruits that could have made the list - but none are more satisfying than watermelon.
Ok, not gonna lie - there arenโt a lot of foods starting with X (this can be your wildcard).
Desserts topped with coconut yoghurt just have that extra flavour texture that is unbeatable.
Roasted or grilled, zucchini is simply a light and refreshing vegetable that is hard to pass up.
If you could choose your own A to Z list of staples that you love, what would it be? I would love to hear your choices and whether or not you agree with mine.

Thanks! Sometimes is a challenge to put some variety in the vegan diet haha
No problem. Way too many choices haha! I think I can probably make a second version of this with all new ingredients
Nice! I would love to read it, I'm following your blog now ;)
This page was loading and in my head I was going "A is for avocado" and then saw it here LOL. Nice list! My xtra would be legumes :)
Haha you guessed it. Ooh good choice, I might have to agree with you on this one. They pair nicely with alot of the other ingredients in the list.
@originalworks
Hummus is so good, but everytime I buy the 1kg bucket, I forget about it and it expires :(
I know this pain all too well. A small tub can be destroyed in half an hour but a 1kg bucket seems to go to waste - a little middle ground would be nice.
Or learn to make it ourselves haha
I have tried one or twice but need to invest in a good food processor to get it ultra creamy.
throw some avo in it #SetAndForget
It is important to choose useful food for the body

Great selection! I always need to have some bananas at hand - especially for my morning smoothie :)
