Do these horses look bored?

The carriage industry insists that horses get bored if they don't work....don't get taken for a ride!
You can end their suffering & BOYCOTT THEM.

The essential needs for a horse....

Any animal being a sensitive person must be placed by their guardian in conditions compatible with the imperatives of their kind. The carriage horses do not have this option, and a number of practices in this environment are not compatible with the biological requirements of horses.

Detention in small box stalls, poor food, and shoeing, city pollution, working over 9 hours a day,
the traffic, the weather....

The horse's respiratory system is put to the test due to appalling working conditions in traffic with extreme temperatures, and carriages full to capacity.

Their digestive disorders are not hard to understand (lack of water, lack of pasture....)

Everything is set to kill a horse!

SPACE AND SOCIALIZING

The living space for horses is paramount. A pasture must be accessible, and a horse cannot live in captivity and alone. Horses are social animals who need to live among their herd..

WATER

Water is the essential nutrient for a horse, but it is often the most neglected for carriage horses.
The body mass of a horse contains 65 to 75% water, i.e. 323 liters, the older the horse, the more the percentage decreases, so they will be more susceptible to dehydration.

The minimum daily requirements of an adult horse are approximately 25 to 35 liters of water. The dehydrated horse often displays hollow sides!

In the summer in nature horses draw their water needs from the pastures which contains 90% of it. A source of fresh water must always be accessible, which is not the case for carriage horses!

In winter the water supply is even more critical, because the diet shifts to dry hay, which contains only very little water.

Fresh and temperate water must be available at all times, neither snow nor ice can meet their water needs!

FOOD

Food must be considered a RIGHT!

The horse is a herbivore and a folivore that must consume 12 to 15 meals in 24 hours. Horses must have always at disposal good quality grass and forage, and fresh water.

The carriage horses eat dusty and mouldy hay in the morning before working for 9 hours, and in the evening when returning to their narrow stalls.

Between the two they consume flour and grain based food. But a horse, not being a bird, does not digest sugars, which are not an element of their diet, and horses are not equipped to digest this type of food.

Because all of these requirements are neglected, they die of colics, excruciating pain for a horse, as well as dehydration, and exhaustion.

Next time you see a horse-drawn carriage in Rome, New York or Quebec...don't get taken for a ride.
