Focusvape Premium Pro Review

in #vaporizer7 years ago (edited)

Heyho Steemit-Community!
Yesterday I received my new vaporizer - the "Focusvape Premium Pro". I unboxed and tested it and I want to give you guys my first opinion, so you can decide if this is the right device for you. This is my first review in english, so sorry for any mistakes. I hope you will understand it :)

My last vaporizer was the "Hebe Titan 2" - a fairly cheap and small device. I was more or less satisfied with the Titan 2, especially if you consider its price (I bought it for ~60 Euros). But the taste, the battery and the poor workmanship quality were the main reasons to buy a new one.

I was looking for something in the price range from 100-130 euros and selected the following devices as potential candidates:

  • Flowermate v5.0 Pro
  • Flowermate v5.0 Pro mini
  • Flowermate Swift Pro
  • Boundless CFV
  • Arizer Air (165€!)
  • Focusvape Pro

I'm fairly new into vaping, maybe there are a more good devices in this price range. But you can't buy every model in germany.
The following criteria were the most important:

  • stealthy design
  • good material quality
  • taste
  • battery lifetime (I use it a lot on the go)
  • micro-USB (so I can connect it to a powerbank)

Package

The Focusvape Pro was the best compromise. I really liked the changeable battery and the pen design so I bought it for 120€.

Package contents

  • Focusvape Pro
  • 3200 mAh Battery (Samsung 18650)
  • 2 interchangeable glass mouthpieces
  • silicone cap for the mouthpiece
  • brush + tool
  • 4 sifters
  • USB cable
  • bubbler (waterfilter)
  • 2 manuals (english and german)

accessories

I'm very pleased with the package contents. A second glass mouthpiece is very nice because it may be the first part that breaks. The water bubbler made me very curious - only a nice bonus or actually useful?

Preparation

I charged it fully for around 3 hours. I used the provided micro-USB cable and a wall adapter from my phone.

USB cable

A big disapointment is the proprietary USB cable. I looks nearly like a standard mirco-USB plug but its a bit longer! The Focusvape has a thick leather-like surface, so the plug needs to be a bit longer to reach the port. In my opinion thats a huge design flaw. On this picture you can compare the plug of the Focusape (at the top) with a regular micro USB plug (at the bottom). The first one is a bit longer.

USB comparison

Apart from this it's a standard USB cable, you can use regular wall adapters or powerbanks to charge the device. Its a downside of the overall package but it's not a dealbreaker thanks to the changeable battery. You find a charger for 18650 batteries very cheap (around 10 euro) on ebay, amazon, etc. I will get such a charger and some replacement batteries. But you mustn't lose the included USB cable if you want to charge the battery in the device. Then you would need to order a new original cable for around 10 euros.

After charging I turned it on and set it on max. temp (240°C) for around 10 minutes to burn off possible factory materials.

Ease of use

No surprise: Like most modern portable vaporizers the Focusvape Pro is fairly easy to handle. Press any button 3 times to turn it on. It will automatically start heating to the last set temperature. You can adjust the temperature stepless with the 2 buttons from 80-240°C. The heating process is fast and it vibrates when it reaches the designated temperature. I wait additional 10-15 seconds before I start vaping so I'm sure it really produced enough heat.
It goes into standby after 5 minutes and turns off after additionally 3 minutes. To turn the device off manually simply hold the 2 buttons for 2 seconds.

To fill it up you simply unscrew the top of the devices and put your grinded herbs into the ceramic chamber. The golden chamber looks very nice and you can pack around 0.4g of herbs into the chamber.

You can configure the airflow with the ring in 4 steps: 0 holes - 3 holes open. Thats nice but I had the feeling that without "venting" you get virtually no vapor out of the mouthpiece. With at least one hole open the airflow is very good. The difference between 1, 2 and 3 holes open is small but noticeable.

First sessions

My gf and me started our first session yesterday evening. We were surprised how heavy the devices is. It feels very valuable and all materials seem to have a good quality.

We set the device to 190°C and took some nice hits. The flavour is good, especially for such a small devices. With our last vaporizer, the Titan 2, we always had a slight metallic and plastic off-taste. This is not the case with the Focusvape Pro!
The vapor production is not bad. We were surprised how much vapor you can get from a portable device. I heard that some products like the Arizer Solo have an even higher vapor output. We both don't smoke and our lungs were surprised as well from the vapor production despite the vapor wasn't hot. But after the first hits that was no problem anymore.
The top of the device (above the airflow adjustment ring) gets pretty hot. But you can grap it below the ring without problems.

Later we set the temperature to 195 degree and noticed a bit more flavour and vapor. The effects of both sessions were like expected and very enjoyable. Nice benefit of the ceramic oven is that the heat is spread equally. The herbs get evenly heated so that there are no extreme dark or green spots.

The water bubbler

We tried this "mini-bong" as well - it's awesome! It makes the device even heavier and you need to read the manual bevor filling it! We required some time to figure it out but if you know (or read!!!) how it works then it's no problem. It can happen that some water drips into the device, but the chamber is very hot so that the water instantly gets vaporized :)
We took some hits through the bubbler. The vapor is even colder and tastes very fresh. Thats a nice addition and more than a bonus! I think we will use the water bubbler a lot when size and weight is no issue. You can order a adapter for a real waterpipe for around 6 euros if you want to.

Battery lifetime

Sorry I can't tell you much at this point. I need to do more field testing first :) The reports for the runtime are around 60 minutes or 8 - 12 (5 to 8 minutes long) sessions. When thats the case I would be very happy with the runtime. Especially when you have a powerbank or additional batteries.

Conclusion

Overall we are very happy with this device and can recommend it if you are searching for a cheap portable vaporizer. The design of the USB port is a problem but the pros outweight this flaw. Most other vaporizer in this price range have a small battery or even no micro USB port at all. And I think apart from the Arizer Solo/Air there are no cheap devices with changeable batteries!
I would give the Focusvape Pro 4,5/5 Stars :)

Thank you for reading. If you have any questions please post them an I try to answer them. Which vaporizers do you use?
