UK Vape Retailer Calls For Safer Nicotine Trading Laws

Haypp Group, a British online nicotine retailer, has launched a new campaign. It calls for the UK to implement a safer nicotine trading law. This is in response to a previous announcement to ban disposable vapes in England and Wales.

Markus Lindblad, head of legal and external affairs at Haypp Group respond to this. He says: “The proposals could positively impact sales (for retailers), smokers will pick up safer options. Retailers should start changing their stock today (following the disposable vape ban announcement)”

Details of the proposals.

The group’s proposals are mainly as follows:

Tobacco product packaging should be child-proof and use child-safe packaging;

Product descriptions should not attract minors. And only use clear and accurate flavor descriptions rather than adding advertising to attract;

Sales behind the counter. Nicotine products should not be openly displayed. But should be hidden behind the sales counter. The same applies to any online retailer.

The maximum nicotine content for all products on the UK market should be 20mg per bag;

The maximum pH value of all products on the market should be 9.1, and the minimum pH value should be 5.6;

All products on the UK market are tested to Nicoleaks.com standards, including the nicotine and pH levels mentioned above.

Lindblad also emphasises that retailers can showcase that they’re responsible and can think for [themselves]. Then government legislation will be more relevant, [as it becomes] consumer-centric. And, make sure that we [help] former smokers with the right products.

"As a responsible retailer, we want to ensure that we are doing everything we can to support the government proposals and restrict the promotion of nicotine products. While there is a huge focus currently on vapes, nicotine pouch retailers should also consider the same impact and start to make changes sooner rather than later. There is an urgency now to make changes to create a sustainable industry."
