LEH... { THE MOUNTAINS ARE CALLING... }

Hello friends today i will tell u about a beautiful hill station named LEH, located in the Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir. Due to the strong influence, Leh is also known as little tibet or the land of Lamas . once the capital of the Himalayan kingdom Ladakh, Leh is still dominated by the Leh palace.

Leh provides for a number of adventure activities including mountaineering, East longitude and altitude ranging from 2300 meters to 5000 meters above sea level. District Leh with and area of 45100 Sq. Km. makes it one of the largest District in the country.The District is bounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir in the west and China in the North and eastern part of HimachalPradesh. It is at a distance of 434 Km from State capital Srinagar and 474 Km from manali (HP)Valley.District Leh is situated roughly between 32 to 36 degree north Latitude and 75 to 80 degree.

Leh is located in the Indus river valley at a crossroads of the old trading routes from Tibet & Kashmir. Its important as a trading town slowed down with the partition of British India, and ended with the closure of the border. During the Indian war, Since opening to tourists in 1974, it has become a bustling tourist town, with large numbers of Kashmir traders.The main advantage of taking the road from Srinagar, covering a distance of 434 km (270 mi), is that it runs at a lower altitude, and thereby reduces the risk and severity of altitude sickness.Most traveller use Leh as a base to visit the numerous, the Buddhist monaster of Ladakh.

The shopping areas of the old town and the area around the bus station are good for Tibet style restaurants, although few offer more than and momos. Vegetarian dish are difficult to find in these places.There is little in the way of night life in Leh., but they close fairly early.
