Survey: Half of the US Don't Celebrate Valentine's Day

According to Taiwan media, the National Retail Association (NRF) survey shows that more than 60% of Americans plan to celebrate Valentine's Day 10 years ago, but half of them think that it is now over-commercial and not plan to celebrate it. However, it is interesting that fewer people spend money on the holidays, but the expenses related to Valentine's Day are not reduced.

According to Taiwan's "Business Times" reported on February 12, according to the latest Valentine's Day expenditure report released by the NRF, only 51% of Americans surveyed said they had a plan. The number of shoppers who will express their love in this romantic festival has been declining for 12 years.

Katherine Cullen, head of NRF industry and consumer watch, pointed out: "In order to understand why people choose Valentine's Day, we did some research and summarized three reasons. First, some consumers complained that Valentine's Day was too commercialized. Second, there is no other half to celebrate, and the third is purely no longer interested in this festival."

According to the report, it is interesting to note that the number of Americans planning to celebrate Valentine's Day has decreased, and the related expenses have increased. According to the NRF report, the total consumption of Valentine's Day in the United States is expected to reach US$20.7 billion, and the per capita consumption is US$161.96, which is 13% higher than last year's US$143.56.

According to the report, it is because people who have a heart for Valentine's Day, lovers or spouses are not the only ones who spend money, but also children, friends, family, colleagues and even pets. In fact, of the $18.4 per capita spending this year, only $4.26 was spent on the spouse or the other half.
