Camp setup complete. Time for the beach!

in #vacation8 years ago

Yesterday we left off with a beautiful picture of the waves crashing on the shore. Today we will pick up from there.

Beach Time

With everything in camp ready to go, we headed to the beach. Lake Michigan was about 30yds from our tent and we made the trip plenty of times. Temperature this day was in the mid 80's and perfect for the beach. We made the walk 3.5 miles down to the point where Fisherman's Island is located. We heard sometimes at low tide, you can walk out to the island. It was far too deep today and we didn't attempt the crossing.

On the right side of this picture you can see the island and channel between.

We walked the beach for hours upon hours. It's 6 miles long so plenty of time for exploring. Whenever we got too hot, in the water we went. Along the walk we saw rocks people had stacked. Some of them were really cool.

Sunset over the Lake

The day was winding down and we wanted to catch the sunset on the water. Unfortunately it was overcast and the clouds blocked most of the view. I was able to catch a couple pics and a video before the sun dipped below the clouds. I wish the video didn't look so crappy. YouTube plays it at 480p....🙄

End of day 1

With Day 1 in the books we commenced to drinking and sitting around the campfire. It had been a long day and we were beatdown from the sun.

At this point we had no idea what tomorrow had in store for us. We had planned to stay here 1 night, then head South down the West coast of Michigan.

Day 2 Preview

Check out was at 1pm. We were awake by 7am. The sun was poking up over the lake and it was starting to warm up fast. During our excursion around the park yesterday we saw some other camp sites that caught our eye. We were 30yds off the lake....these sites were about 15ft away.

Off to the ranger station we went. We were met with disappointment quickly. All the beachfront sites were booked up, but they did have one off the beaten path. It was number 80 and the farthest away from everything. We looked at each other and said "We'll take it."

Back to our site we went to get things together for the 3.5 mile trip out to the new site. Feeling slightly hungover and a bit foggy from the night before, we tried to find the easiest way to do this. Just then a light bulb turned on over my head. 💡

This is my beater car I use for work....and camping. I'm not worried about it getting scratched up. It's got +220,000 miles and I put 1000 miles a week on it driving back and forth to work. And just like that a few minutes later, we were setup at the other location.

Stay tuned for Day 2 and more redneckery.

Thank you @ssg-community for being awesome!

Me too! Hoping to head back up there one of these weekends. Now I'm typing up a post about the coins you sent. Should be out in a little while.

Sounds like a perfect northern Michigan adventure. I love the tent on top of the car!

That's what the hoopty is for. I give her a beating and she keeps going. I never did make it down to TC. Maybe this weekend we'll head up there, still haven't decided on a place to go yet.

Based on your reaction to Petoskey, you might do better hitting the Dunes in Empire. TC def has a hipster man bun contingent.
