Short Vacation to Port Dickson

Last Sunday we embarked on a long overdue vacation after what seems to be forever since our last vacation, which was before my son, Evan, was born. So this will also be his first vacation away from home. 

For those not from this corner of the world, Port Dickson is a coastal town know for it's beach tourism and of course it's relatively close proximity to the Kuala Lumpur, the nation's capital city.

The Hotel we stayed in is called Avillion Hotel Port Dickson. It is kind of old and creaky, but some might find it charming. It also houses an assortment of activity centers, stores and food outlets, so you don't really have to venture out of the hotel compound to get whatever you need.

Avillion Hotel offers a selection of conventional hotel rooms, villas and water chalets. We went with the conventional superior hotel room, as it was the only option with a view of the sea from up high. Although the room we got was a twin superior room, which has 2 single beds instead of a queen size bed, we solved that by pushing both beds together. All rooms also come with an extra single bed near the windows called a Pangkin daybed.

Everyday from noon to approximately 5pm is low tide, when the sea water recedes and reveals the alien landscape hidden below.

This is Tumasek Beach, by far the cleaner of the two. It is located on the other side of the Hotel compound and is about 5-10 minutes walk from our room.

For those not in favour of sea water can visit one of the three swimming pools in the hotel (one of them is for children).

The only chink in our otherwise perfect holiday was a faulty air conditioner in our room. We lodged a complaint at the front desk on the second day and was promptly upgraded to a duplex room, named as such because the bedroom is on a separate upper mezzanine floor on top of the main room space.

And with an upgraded room comes an upgraded view.

On a side note, one of our brunch was at the PD beachfront McDonalds outlet. Yes it is just a regular Mcdonald's, but with a view looking out towards the sea, so that's something different.

While it was only 3 days and it wasn't exactly far from home (Port Dickson is around 70km from my house), we had a great time and Evan definitely enjoyed himself. Looking forward to our next vacation!
