The structure itself is made from Travertine stone and was quarried just outside of Rome in Tivoli.
What's amazing is that each day, around 3000 euros is thrown into the fountain and this money is used to support local markets in the surrounding area. You can almost never get a picture of the fountain without hoards of people doing the same. Even if you wake up super early, there are always people trying to snap the perfect picture.
