Tutorial | Cutting Out Letters From The Image | Gimp #5

In this part, I will be discussing how you can cut out letters from the image in GIMP 2. You can mix this tutorial with skyline effect or other effects to produce awesome results. That's why you should learn this tutorial of GIMP because it could potentially increase the ideas.
You should have basic understanding of GIMP and how it works to fully understand this tutorial

Tutorial

First of all open a colorful image to make your letter colorful. You can use any letter but pictures of sunset will make your letter look more beautiful. Anyway the image I am using is this one if you want to use the same image as me. To open the image go to drop down menu of file and press open and then select the image.

After opening the image, select the layer, right click on it and then click on "Add Alpha Channel".

Now just duplicate the layer.

Now use the text tool and drag it across the screen. You can type any word or letter but in this case I am just gonna type "A" letter. The font I am using is Badaboom, you can download I am using from here. Mind that it is for non-commercial use only.

You will notice that text's size is small and color is white which doesn't suits and makes the text unclear. To change the size and color go to the panel at bottom left. You will see there's plenty of options there, one of them is "size" where you can change the size and one option is "color" where you can change the color. Use those two options to change size and color. Size I am gonna choose is "500" and color black to make it prominent.

Now use the move tool to change the position of the text and put it somewhere where more colors are showing, I'll move the text to where there are more trees, like this

Right click on text layer and then click on "Alpha To Selection" to make make selection around the text. Once you have made the selection go to the second layer.

After you are on second layer turn the visibility of the first "text" layer off by clicking eye beside the layer in layer the manager.

Now inverse the selection by going in drop down menu if "select" and then click on invert.

Again right click on layer and click "Add Alpha Channel" then press delete button to delete all the image part so only text part of the image will be left, now turn visibility of last layer off.

If you want you can keep the text like the way it is. If you want to make it more interesting use the IWarp tool which you can open by going to drop down manu of "filters" then click on distort and select IWarp from there.

You can see you have successfully cut out the letter from the image! Congrats!

Before And After

Hope you have learned something new in this part, stay tuned for the next one. Remember if you have any confusion state them in comments. I'll be more than happy to help.

Cya! Next Time!
