The Curious Expedition - Greek Translation Part. 30

Current Session

After a short break, thanks to the whole fork mess, I am back with a new contribution for the Curious Expedition. I really can't believe I have already finished 30 contributions for the project! And I have only finished something like 36 % of the whole project so there is a lot more to come!

Like I did once in the past, I decided to be a bit more creative with this translation and again added some strings of my own here and there. Below is one such example.

First, let's see the original English string:

[I kindly asked $name to create a painting|I talked to $name and suggested $he produce a painting here]. However [$he was still extremely upset and refused to work|$he was incensed by my request]. [Instead $he grabbed an empty canvas and smashed it over $his knee|Perturbed by my instruction, $he jammed the brush in my pocket and insisted I paint it!|To prove $his point $he took an empty canvas and violently cut it to shreds with a knife|I was stunned as $he erupted in hysterics and smeared paint across a canvas, wasting it][, staring angrily at me throughout the whole process| while cursing our expedition at the top of $his lungs| singing like a lunatic the whole time].

The string I added to the translation was:

"Ταραγμένος από το αίτημά μου, $he πήρε μια βούρτσα και μου είπε να την βάλω εκεί που ξέρω" which roughly translates to:

Perturbed by my instruction, $he gave me a brush and told me to put it where I know

The "where I know" part is a Greek saying and as you have probably guessed, it means to put it in my ass. And yeah, this string was inspired by the "Perturbed by my instruction, $he jammed the brush in my pocket and insisted I paint it!" string from the original text.

Like always, I will also share the music I enjoyed while preparing this contribution. This time I had the soundtrack of "The Rock" playing in the background, again and again:

Project Details

The Curious Expedition is a rogue-like expedition simulation set in the 19th century. It's the first game by indie developer Maschinen-Mensch. The game is available on Steam, GOG, Humble Store and at the official homepage http://curious-expedition.com. The game has been regularly updated through out the last 2 years. A list of all the updates can be found here. For information on modding the game, go here . [source and more info]

Gameplay

And here's what I believe to be the official trailer:

Why Did I Choose This Project?

Well, to be honest, I chose this project because all the other options were applications with boring names like Freecad and Jabref. I thought it would be fun (edit: less boring) to translate a game instead. And thank god... I was right!

I am sure my team members are very jealous that I get to translate strings like "Let's eat", "Giant tortoise", "I feel happy and sad", and "Oh my god" while they get to translate stuff like "resolving duplicate keys", "Port Design", "Constraining modifier key" and "Corrugated elements"... LOL!

Too bad for them, now they have to live with the choices they have made....MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview: This is a really large project, approximately 80.000 words and obviously it's gonna take me a while to finish. In each part I plan to translate anywhere from 700 to 1200 words. For the most part, the translation is very easy as there are few, if any, technical terms.
  • Languages: The project is being translated from English to Greek.
  • Word Count: According to Crowdin, for Part 30# I translated 1106 words, for a total of 30.747 translated words. Since most of the strings translated were part of the in-game dialogues there were only a handful (1, maybe 2%) that were left in the original language, e.g. screenshot.

Credits

First I'd like to thank our very helpful and patient LMs, @dimitrisp and @ruth-girl for being awesome.

A shout-out goes of course to the other brilliant members of the Greek team: @katerinaramm, @lordneroo and of course the one and only @trumpman. A special shoutout of course goes to @trumpman2, I would be nothing without his constant support and guidance!

And last but not least, a big thank you goes to DaVinci and Utopian for keeping this project alive, running and developing!

Thank you for contributing to the Davinci-Utopian translation project @trumpman!
This was the 30th part for the “Curious Expedition” project and your contribution number 31 to the translation category in total.

You are currently working on the Curious Expedition, a game that, even though it may not contain difficult terms and vocabulary, is one of the biggest projects a member of our team has ever tried to work on (almost 80,000 words). Good luck on this difficult task!
When you started translating, a handful of strings were already submitted (but not approved or voted) by another translator irrelevant to the Davinci-Utopian project. You have gone through them and checked them for any corrections that needed to be made, you have even fixed a few of them that were problematic.

This is your first contribution since the HF20 happened, however you didn't let your guard down. Your translation was pretty much flawless (sans some missing punctuation marks)

I really lol-ed with some of the strings, as your humor got the best of me in the quest of proofreading your translation as seriously as possible. I mean Δεητζήδες? 😂😂😂

Your contribution post is pretty much great and to the point, and it was nice to see you translated 1000+ words this time!

Here is some Μελιτζανοσαλάτα (Eggplant Salad, although it has no egg that came out of plants :P )
