Current Session

This was a really tiring translation. I didn't manage to get a nap after my day job (I need to cut that coffee down!) so my head was a bit fuzzy and didn't want to cooperate when I started it a few hours back.

Still, I somehow managed to get through and this brings us to the 29th contribution for this project, with 35 % of the whole project completed. Slowly but steadily I am chopping this beast down. The day it will bow TO MY GREATNESS comes closer and closer! It will never know what hit it!!!!!

So, like always, here are a couple of strings I translated during this session to give you a small idea on what I am working on:

  • "[Once we were done with|After talking about] the storage room, [our host|the missionary] returned to his [other|everyday] duties."

  • "However, the mind of $name had brought something back from [that trance|the other side|the dream world]. $He [started behaving weirdly|began scratching $his skin rigorously|was not the same afterwards|had been healed, but at a price]."

  • "We [reached an arrangement|agreed on terms|came to an agreement] with the cultist."

  • "[There were unexpected visitors tonight|That night there was a strange occurrence]. [Innumerable|Countless] small, ghostlike creatures surrounded the campsite and stared at me through their large, empty eyes. Despite their frightful appearance their intentions seemed noble. To my surprise one of the creatures approached me and offered a gift."

  • "This may be my last entry. $name has started behaving more and more peculiar around me. I know $he has turned to cannibalism before, and I fear that $he might kill me while I sleep and devour my body. Tomorrow morning I will send $him away."

As you can see, it's easy peasy stuff :)

And like always, here's a small taste of what I was listening to during this session:

Yep, only Sabaton today :D

Project Details

The Curious Expedition is a rogue-like expedition simulation set in the 19th century. It's the first game by indie developer Maschinen-Mensch. The game is available on Steam, GOG, Humble Store and at the official homepage http://curious-expedition.com. The game has been regularly updated through out the last 2 years. A list of all the updates can be found here. For information on modding the game, go here . [source and more info]

Gameplay

Here's a video showing some in-game footage from the game to get a good idea of what to expect. Maybe it will convince you to give it a try:

And here's what I believe to be the official trailer:

Why Did I Choose This Project?

Well, to be honest, I chose this project because all the other options were applications with boring names like Freecad and Jabref. I thought it would be fun (edit: less boring) to translate a game instead. And thank god... I was right!

I am sure my team members are very jealous that I get to translate strings like "Let's eat", "Giant tortoise", "I feel happy and sad", and "Oh my god" while they get to translate stuff like "resolving duplicate keys", "Port Design", "Constraining modifier key" and "Corrugated elements"... LOL!

Too bad for them, now they have to live with the choices they have made....MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview: This is a really large project, approximately 80.000 words and obviously it's gonna take me a while to finish. In each part I plan to translate anywhere from 700 to 1200 words. For the most part, the translation is very easy as there are few, if any, technical terms.
  • Languages: The project is being translated from English to Greek.
  • Word Count: According to Crowdin, for Part 28# I translated 906 words, for a total of 28741 translated words. Since most of the strings translated were part of the in-game dialogues there were only a handful (1, maybe 2%) that were left in the original language, e.g. screenshot.

First I'd like to thank our very helpful and patient LMs, @dimitrisp and @ruth-girl for being awesome.

A shout-out goes of course to the other brilliant members of the Greek team: @katerinaramm, @lordneroo and of course the one and only @trumpman. A special shoutout of course goes to @trumpman2, I would be nothing without his constant support and guidance!

And last but not least, a big thank you goes to DaVinci and Utopian for keeping this project alive, running and developing!

Thank you for contributing to the Davinci-Utopian translation project @trumpman!
This was the 29th part for the “Curious Expedition” project and your contribution number 30 to the translation category in total.

As usual, the c/p part of the review comes first:

You are currently working on the Curious Expedition, a game that, even though it may not contain difficult terms and vocabulary, is one of the biggest projects a member of our team has ever tried to work on (almost 80,000 words). Good luck on this difficult task!
When you started translating, a handful of strings were already submitted (but not approved or voted) by another translator irrelevant to the Davinci-Utopian project. You have gone through them and checked them for any corrections that needed to be made, you have even fixed a few of them that were problematic.

Perfect translation, only one small typo was there. Can you do better next time please? :P

You kept the quirkiness once again, and to be honest the Greek translation is even better than the original text! Good job!

Keep it going! Thank you for being part of the Greek Translation Team! Here are a few cookies for doing such a good job
