Promoting Steemit To Families And Friends- A Practical Example

INTRODUCTION

This is a community challenge post and a report on my routine advertisement campaign. The challenge is being organized by @dragonslayer109 who is in charge of the #africaunited community. Do well to join. There are many ways to killing a cat but among the many ways lies the most convenient one. To me the most appropriate way to promote steemit is to find a person who is genuinely interested in the project. I have had many ups and downs in my promotion activity. One core element to the failure of most newbies is the lack of passion. Most newbies of-course are fed with only the goodies of steemit and upon signing up fail to realize that it takes time to build on the platform.

APPROACHING CAMPAIGNS DIFFERENTLY

So i started campaigning differently. Though the methods used for mass campaign cannot eliminate newbies steemicide( Dying on steemit), i have devised some means to reduce it which i am going to share with the community.
As a steemit ambassador, you are just an information bearer, not a politician. You just have to lay down the facts for your audience to make a decision. If you give too little information, you end up looking like you deceived your audience and if you give too much information on the go, you end up becoming boring. So you make it as simple as possible by giving them the name of the website, what the website does and you give them your contact to ask you any questions that they want. Personally, i am often asked where and how do i get paid. If i am to answer every how do i receive my money to the 100 hundreds of people that i relay this information to, I will never get time for myself. So i basically forward them articles on that to make it simple for me.

NOTE

So a promoter needs to be armed with good and simple FAQ articles that he can forward to newbies who need clarification. Now that i have talked about the little but important aspects of promoting steemit, i will proceed to the main methods of promoting steemit to families. First thing that families want to see is success. You don't have to be a promoter before you start to promote steemit. Your success on steemit is an indication that there is treasure on steemit. So make your success know and it will draw people closer. But if you have dedicated your time and have passion to promote steemit, there are simple known activities you can partake in with little knowledge.

PREREQUISITES FOR PROMOTING STEEMIT

There is only one prerequisite. You must be knowledgeable about steemit. You must have read and understood at least the FAQ. Most at times, i am able to answer questions posed at me because i have read both the FAQ and the Steemit Bluepaper. That gives you extra confidence to start your promotion.

Now that we are all set, Promotion can be divided into two based on where it is taking place; either online or offline.

FOR ONLINE PROMOTERS;

This can be quite hectic as you get to expose steemit to many through social media avenues like whatsapp, facebook, twitter, medium, forums, blogs, emails and what have you. The difficulty with this form of promotion is, many of the audience find it too good to be true and dont basically believe what you forwarded to them. I have actually started doing some online promotional activities which i will elaborate in my report which will be at the end of this article. You first need to build a relationship with your audience before you slam the information into their face else it is definitely a spam. Imagine how you will feel when someone you dont know just sends you a message about some economic activity. The first thought that comes into your mind is scam. So dont spam with your promotional activities as it wont yield good results.

For whatsapp, you can easily create a broadcast and send you designed promotional post to your contacts as i often do. For facebook, i often update my wall with my steemit activities and i also manage the promo-ghana facebook page dedicated to promoting steemit in Ghana. As for tweets, you add a trending nice post and leave a few comments on it. You can actually embark on a retweet activity with your followers who are loyal. The methods are many but they all need right information at the right time to ensure efficiency.

FOR OFFLINE PROMOTERS

Now lets delve into the offline promotion activities. You can follow myself , @starkerz and @promo-steem to see how we basically go about offline promo activities. Offline promo activities can be the most stressful and often requires a lot of dedicated time. Offline promo/ word of mouth can be done during a meet up. That's a couple of steemians organize themselves to meet and talk about steemit where they incorporate a promo activity into their schedule. Almost all my meet-ups have led to a promo activity. This activity was supposed to be a meetup and it turned into a planned promotion.

Some of the pre-requisite for the online promotion applies to the offline promo as knowledge is a key component in promoting a brand. So all the promoters need to be knowledgeable about the FAQ and the Steemit Blue Paper as all possible questions are answered there.
You will need a designed flyer or poster.

Secondly but not compulsory, you will need a steemit branded t-shirt as it makes it more realistic. I personally have one branded shirt and am making more for my promo entourage.

Once you have all these materials set, you need a venue or roadmap for your activity. I was lucky enough to get to present to a whole class some few weeks ago about steemit. You will have to get a powerpoint presentation for this kind of activity highlighting what steemit is and some basic features like how to sign up, login and upvote a post. So i drew no roadmap. But if you are in a big city, you need to plan where you will be going in order to bring orderliness to your work. This promotion is commonly know as word of mouth basically because you just speak to people about the platform. You can also print out small cards containing little information about steemit and your contact address to share to your audience incase they may be interested. Basically, this is what i run through when i am doing my offline campaign.

Facebook Promotion Report.

I just started a facebook promotion on the promo-ghana page. I wrote a call out to sign up on the steemit platform which has managed to reach 112 people so far within 12hours. I have basically had 3 people contacting me on how they can sign up on my whatsapp line as i also broadcasted my campaign to 256 of my contacts. I believe this is the best way to call out to families and friends.

I started todays promotion by writing a facebook post that detailed that steemit rocks and how i am getting paid $40 for writing in just some few days. I shared the post on whatsapp platform and other social media and the results so far has been awesome. There has been a total of 112 people reached and still counting.

There has been 12 post engagement and 2 people have already contacted me on signing up.

With the wonderful results that i am getting, i will continue to run this campaign for a couple of weeks as i prepare for a big meet up. I will keep this post updated with more results on the activities the activities of this campaign. Promoting steemit is a business for all and we should treat it as something important.
