How to watch 3d movies using vlc
Hello everyone! It's been a while since I last posted a tutorial for vlc but here you have it. I'm sure that by now, you are already convinced that VLC media player is the best media player there is. It is the only media player that have an answer to all your needs, like if you want to convert video codecs, play youtube videos, add subtitles, etc. All we need to do is learn how to make use of its awesome features. So, Today I will be guiding you how to watch 3d movies in vlc. Les's get started!
What is 3D?
3D or Three-Dimensional is something that has width, height and length. Just like in our physical environment, we live in a three-dimensional world and moved in a 3D way. We all have the ability to perceive depth because of our Stereoscopic vision, where our two eyes provide slightly different images, the closer objects appear more separated than distant ones.
Now that we know what 3D is, let us learn how we can play 3D movies in vlc.
Open your VLC media player, if you still haven't installed it yet. You can click on this link: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html. This will take you to there website and you can download their software in there. Just click on the drop down button beside Download and choose your OS. After you have chosen your OS, just click on it and it will immediately start to download.
After your download has finished, install it then open it so we can start.
Now that you have your vlc media player opened up, go to Media > Open File or press Ctrl+O and find your 3D video. Make sure that you have already downloaded your 3D movies or video into your computer and also it must be SBS (Side-by-Side) 3D. This SBS is the widely used 3D format, it is intended for both eyes at the same time with two halves on the left and on the right, the entire frame is for the left eye while the right eye is respectively scaled down horizontally to fit the left-half and the right half of the frame. Then these frames will be displayed alternately in a frame sequential manner which is in sync with your 3D glasses.
Now, that you have loaded your 3d video, click on Tools > Effects and Filters.
Now, the Adjustments and Effects window will open up.
Kindly click on the Video Effects tab. This will take you to the options for the video editing tools.
Now that you are in the Video Effects tab. click on the arrow button that is pointing to the right. This will let you see the Advanced tab, kindly click on it to show its options. After you have clicked it, tick the check box of Anaglyph 3D, this will now let you watch your 3D movie in VLC.
You have finished setting up, now all you have to do is to on put your Red/Cyan 3D glasses and enjoy your 3D movie.
That is all for today's tutorial, until next time!
