As a result of our daily use of computers, we are dealing more often with sound and video. Therefore, organizational methods are a necessity to edit media files internal information to make our media library more orderly and systematic.

EasyTAG is a free and open source program used to view and edit media files information such as description and tags. In this post, I will discuss the details of its features , and how to setup it and use it properly.

Suppose you have an audio file, and you want to add the name of the singer, album name, composer, year of production, photo, etc. ... EasyTag is your best option to do so.

• Very handy, suitable for end users.
• Written in C and GTK + for the graphical interface, which means it is fast and very responsive.
• Supports a large number of formats including mp2, mp3, mp4, mpc, flac, opus, speex, ape, ogg vorbis.
• Supports automatic tagging of files.
• Supports a large number of tag fields (rather than file information) including Title, Artist, Album, Disc Album, Year, Track Number, Genre, Composer, Comment, Original Artist, URL, Encoder, Copyright Information and Picture.
• Supports changing the value of a particular field in the presence of a huge amount of files, all at once.
• Supports changing file names using external text files as well as using tag information.

Installation on Ubuntu, LinuxMint, ...

Open the Terminal, Ctrl + Alt + T and paste the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: amigadave / ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install easytag

Installation on Fedora, Redhat, ...

Note: You will need to activate the EPL repository.

Paste one of the following commands, depending on your copy number:

yum install easytag
dnf install easytag [On Fedora 22+ versions]

How to use EasyTag

Choose an MP3 file (for example), through the file browser on the left, you will see information about the file in the right hand side, you can add / edit what you want:

That's not all! You can also add an image to an MP3 file via the Pictures tab, where you can drag and drop any picture to that space:

You can also customize and adjust image properties as you like:

Now save your changes, and press YES:

Now, when you open File Properties, you will see the information that we've added:

The same applies to video files and even images and all media types ...

Summary
EasyTAG is more useful than you may think. It is actually used by films producers, music and photo artists to add copyrights to their media files.
