RE: European Financial Transparency Gateway

I do not know many people sharing your sense of urgency. Probably there lies the rub. But I agree a dose of direct democracy could bring value if well implemented. It also has serious blindspots as humans tend to fall victim to their emotions and turn into lynching mobs sometimes.

Sort:

because the parliaments aren't made of humans? so you have a problem with mob rulez or at least 50%+ of those expressing their opinions and prefer to have a selected few elected by the same humans? I mean are you even capable of logic?

I believe so, yes. You just need to open your eyes and see how the world works.

I can easily name as many instances as you wish where people have reacted emotionnaly with their limbic brain to an issue (that they often barely understood). Just like an incontrollable mob

I can't name even one instance where a parliament has reacted emotionally and behaved like a mob.

Even if it appears illogical to you, there must be something right with this arrangement because parliaments have started gaining ground 7 centuries ago and they have only spread from then on.

I can only note that there are always MORE parliaments created, not LESS. And each time a society creates a parliament it is widely acclaimed as societal progress. Of course that doesn't mean that we can't improve, I believe we can and in time we will.

But improvement will certainly not come from throwing the baby out with the badwater, as seductive as that seems to you.
